Cat skin problem- do you think a vet visit is warranted?
Flea taxi has a patch of fur missing on his neck and the underlying skin is red/irritated. It started a few weeks ago with a small patch but he has been rubbing up against things which has made it grow in size. Do you think I could put some neosporin on it and monitor or is a vet visit warranted right away? He doesn't seem to be effected by it other than it seems to itch so he is rubbing it.

1.  a hot spot
My cat Turtle used to get it. If it itches you probably should go to the vet to get some kind of ointment. Turtle's hot spots never seemed to itch and went away..I think hers might have been the result of a spider bite...At least call the vet and ask I think.

2. My cat had a food allergy and went nearly bald. After we got rid of the offending
food (dairy) her fur grew back. I'd take your kittty in, with what all you've said.

3. More info- (had time to think about it more)
It started with a small scab like thing & he always wanted me to scratch him there. I assumed it was a scratch from his brother. I had been monitoring it for an abscess but in the past two days he has removed significant amounts of hair from the area from rubbing up against things.

4. Definitely a hot spot
Thats exactly how Turtle's usally started. Not serious but probably a bit uncomfortable for Flea Taxi (great name) so I would see about going to the vet...:hi:

5. Yup...
a hotspot.

You can find a topical steroid spray at most decent pet stores.

6. Just back from the vet, not a hot spot.
He is inclined to think it is from a tick bite with the other possibility being tumors under the skin. He said if it was hot spots there would be multiple areas. He gave (sold) me some ointment to try & clear it up. He said if it doesn't show improvement in five days to bring him back in. Send some vibes to Flea Taxi!

But insect bite is likely I think...hopefully if it was a tick bite its not a deer tick...
