This is a non-smoking thread
http://www.quitmeter.org/main/page/Tobin

25 days and things are getting easier. I still struggle with it from time to time, though. But the only problem I've had so far is that I've put on 4 pounds. I think part of that is that I'm eating a little more. I tend to snack on sweets more. The other part of it is that nicotine actually raises your metabolic rate and when you quit it goes down. So I guess I need to get more exercise and try to snack on low calorie food. It's going to be hard giving up those sweets, though, especially when I'm in the throes of a craving. It's so easy to just reach for that donut....

I've been taking a drug called bupropion for the last 4 years. It turns out that bupropion is generic Wellbutrin which doctors commonly prescribe for smoking cessation. It is also an anti-depressant and that is what I've been taking it for. But I think the drug did help me quit smoking. It seems like the cravings and withdrawl symptoms weren't as intense as when I tried to quit smoking and wasn't using the drug. If you want to quit, give it a shot. I've not used nicotine replacement therapy- gum, patch, etc.

1. You're doing great Droopy!
25 days is a great accomplishment. I know I gained a fair bit of weight when I quit many years ago. You can deal with that later though. Get your lungs cleaned out, breath deeply and enjoy it.

3. Thanks
My smoker's cough is gone now. That's very encouraging and I didn't expect that to happen that quick.

2. My dear Droopy!
Good for you!

Of course you will still struggle from time to time...

It's a very strong addiction, and not shed easily!

But I am very proud of you!

You have come a long way in fighting this...

You can work on your weight later, after this is less of an issue...

4. Thanks, Peggy
I have a doctors appointment for a colonoscopy next thursday. They think that I have irritable bowel syndrome, which is not a dangerous illness, but more of an inconvenience. They are just checking to be sure I don't have any other illness (like Crohn's disease) so they can positively identify that I have irritable bowel syndrome.

Anyway, what all that means is that after next thursday I may have to change my diet radically in order to deal with the illness. It might then be a good time to see about stopping my weight gain from the smoking cessation.

6. Good luck with that...
The prep is not much fun, but the procedure is easy...

You'll be asleep!

That would be a good time to think about any dietary changes you might want to take...

You're alright. Just put your cigarette out in the ashtray by the door before you come in. :)

Congratulations! lost-in-nj said she took it, too, and she's quit for over a year now.

10. One pleasant surprise I had from quitting smoking is
that my blood pressure went from being borderline high back down to normal. I was really worried about high blood pressure and the associated medication there for a while. No more.
