saying they were calling Adrian Ruiz to talk about a "personal account matter". they called my cellphone and said that was the number he provided to them. i've had this number since 2004.

Apparently Ruiz grew up in nearby Pacifica and lived not too far from here on the west side of SF.

I find this all kind of weird, especially since I've been getting calls on my numbers from one woman who always speaks to me in Spanish (which I don't understand). She called about once every month or two for 2 years, then once last year. Where's my tinfoil hat?

Shark kills S.F. man surfing in Mexico

(04-30) 17:43 PDT MEXICO - -- Adrian Ruiz loved to surf. He tended bar in San Francisco, saving up enough each year to go on surfing trips around the world with his friends.

The 25-year-old San Francisco resident was on one of those surfing trips this week on the Pacific coast of Mexico with his friend, Brant Helms, when, while surfing, they saw a shark in the water, acquaintances said Wednesday. The two surfers joked about keeping their toes out of the water.

Then Ruiz was attacked, and Helms - who at first thought his friend was joking - paddled out to save him. But the wound was too severe and medical help too far away.

"Adrian said he knew he was going to die," said a friend, Bill Herrmann, his former boss and owner of the Holy Cow nightclub in the South of Market area where Ruiz tended bar until recently.

Ruiz bled to death Monday after a tiger shark took a gaping bite from his right thigh, the Guerrero state Public Safety Department said in a statement. The wound was 15 inches long and "reached from the hip to the knee, exposing the femur," the agency said.

4. Your numbers must be similar. They're probably only off by one number
that's why you're getting his calls. Weird.

I've had my same cell number for over 10 yrs, but I've been getting occasional calls for years for a contractor guy who has a very similar number to mine.

One time his sweet little old mom even called my number for him!

It's gotten to the point where I'll say, "Tell Paul I said 'hi!' " That's his name, btw.

I feel like I know the guy by now. :eyes:

9. You think that's weird?
Before I dropped my cell phone, I would get regular calls from Georgia asking for some woman. Considering I'm in Washington state, literally the other side of the country, I don't know how I was getting the calls. Same number, similar area code, maybe?

To make matters worse, this woman was apparently in the middle of getting married, so I got calls from the bride's family, calls from the minister, calls from the wedding planner, etc. They all seemed to be nice enough people, but they couldn't understand why I couldn't tell them where what's her name was.

If they HAD been rude people, I really could have fucked this whole thing up..... "Oh she's handcuffed to the bed and can't talk right now. You wanna leave a message??"
