Saw a depressing bumper sticker & t-shirt over the weekend
Somebody in a minivan here in CT had an "Operation Chaos '08" bumper sticker on the back of their car here in CT...

Then, I was in a local big box electronic retailer and saw a guy that had a "Re-Defeat Communism" t-shirt with Hillary Clinton's picture on it. The guy was probably a teenager when Reagan was president as well...

And, this was in Connecticut.

1. Looks like you folks went the way of my old state, MA
I remember how stunned I was to realize we'd put a series of Republicans in the governor's mansion. Now I'm in Texas where a pig from a Crawford farm could be governor if he dreamed. :banghead:

2. CT has not elected a Democrat as governor
since 1986 and Bill O'Neill.

We had an independent former Republican in Lowell Weicker win in 1990, then Republican John Rowland in 94, 98 and 02, and Jodi Rell, another Republic, in 2006.

Weicker is pretty liberal on most issues, and Rell is fairly moderate. So, that is some consolation, at least.

6. Here's hoping some of the bloom is off the Republican lily this year
With so many of the special elections going to Dems this far, it might signal a shift in thinking in many parts of the country. The thrill with fiscal conservatism may be dying in the worst recession since (at least some say) The Depression.

Depressed Repubs = More Happy Dems :bounce: (perhaps)

3. CT is bizarre like that. They seem to have pockets of the 28 percenters
scattered throughout the state. Some in the strangest area (like waterbury).

4. Waterbury is a magnet for them
John Rowland, Phil Giordano, etc.

But, one was in Newington, CT and the other was on the highway a bit east of Hartford.

7. I lived in Waterbury and Watertown
in the 80's and it was weird how conservative Waterbury was. I could never figure it out. Ironically I remember meeting Toby Moffett at a bar in Waterbury before tried to run for governor.

I read where he is now a lobbyist in DC now.

8. I actually voted for Lieberman in 2000.
the republican running against him is now serving 37 years for child molestation.
