Here's how I would love to see horse/dog/animal racing done

Nothing wrong with animal racing per se - it's the bullshit that goes along with it. Steroids, overworking, cruelty - fuck all that.

Basically animal racing should involve one thing: the animal runs.

No enhancers, no overworking, nothing but just point the animal at what they are chasing, no lanes and just have them chase it.

It should be open to all animals of that breed, and cruelty of any kind should disqualify the owner.

If it's horse racing - no jockey - just horse. Horses can be trained to fixate on one thing and run. Same with dogs.

Again, no fucking cruelty, no drugs (save them for me) and no overworking.

2. I agree

But no jockeys could be difficult with horses..they tend to not run in a straight path when riderless so I'm not sure it would really work
On edit: also horse do have an unfortunate tendency to fight when running wild as well.

4. Who gives a damn?
Whoever wins doesn't matter anymore if there is no gambling or prize money, and if it's just about horses wanting to run, who cares if they go the right way?

5. I've seen alot of horses hurt
in those kind of conditions. Thats usually why big pastures only have a few horses in them at a time. Really.

6. So only have a few at a time
and instead of a track, have a pasture, and instead of racing, call it enjoying life on one's own terms.

7. Most people wouldn't pay to see that
Okay, little girls who are heavily into Breyer horses would like that...but then again, "product only preteen girls who themselves participate" is what killed women's professional soccer.

9. I know
I've had pets before, sort of including a horse (it was my brother's horse when we were kids). Not once did anyone ever pay any money to see any of our pets, and I would be creeped out if they'd asked.

8. We do have that for dogs.
It's called lure coursing and the dog mainly races against the clock instead of other dogs. While it's open to all breeds, the sighthounds seem to do best at it.

10. The obstacle course like dogsports aren't so bad either
Although I don't see a problem with gambling on them. I wouldn't - but people will bet on anything.

Do it. It's stupid but if you want to do it - feel free.

11. 3 dogs run at a time
They are muzzled to prevent any fighting but they focus on the bag.
Sighthounds hunt by sight(duh) so once they lock on target that is all they see or hear. I've taken my little hound to some training runs but never raced her.

15. The courses here run one at a time
against the clock. Of course, we don't have a very big field so that could be why. And we've had almost every breed come out. Not so much the competition as for the fun of it.

14. They must be cared for
Part of enrollment should be estates for "imperfect" dogs to go to and live on.
