Got my skin biopsy results today, somewhat good news.
It is lentigo maligna in situ, which basically means it is a malignant, but pre-cancerous melanoma. The doc has to go in and slice some more off of my back, but that shouldn't be too bad.

I guess I got burned as a kid. I don't remember really getting burned bad. Usually, these occur in elderly people on their hands, arms, and face. I am mid 30's, and the buggers are on my back.

The doctor impressed me. The biopsy came back to being exactly what he said.

So, not spectacular news, but not bad, since it has been caught early. I was pretty relieved.

4. It was actually vanity that helped me spot the big mole.
I am on Weight Watchers, and I was looking in the mirror at parts I need to lose, saw the mole on the back of my shoulder, and said, "where the hell did THAT come from!"

The Doc was impressive to me, so I am glad I was vain, and found a good dermatologist.

3. Mole Patrol!
I'm also in my 30s and have had a number of cancerous / pre-cancerous moles removed. As long as you catch it early, then you're almost always going to be okay. I'm glad everything is going to work out okay for you! :)

Everyone needs to call their doctors and have a yearly mole patrol.

13. Not necessarily toasted
Or else you'd never see them in dark-skinned African Americans, or on parts of the body rarely exposed to sunlight - and I've seen melanomas in both. True, having severe sunburns - particularly at an early age - raises the risk, but even avoiding sunlight entirely doesn't eliminate it.

So, mole-patrol for everybody! And get someone else to check out the less visually accessible bits: not to be crude, but I know of at least one lady who probably would still be alive if she'd gotten a Brazilian wax - or a routine GYN exam - a few years ago.
