1. Very cool.
I don't know that I've seen a hummingbird in decades. I hope you see more of them. :)

2. I'm looking forward to the return of 5 or 6 that usually nest around here.
Maybe you'll have the time to visit my hummers this summer. I'll drive down and play taxi just for you?

:loveya:

I would love to get you into the country for a visit.
There is a herd of Buffalo about 7 miles from here. The babies are so cute in the summer.

10. right on, hummer success!
I'm refilling my feeders every few days trying so hard to get some bird's attention :( I saw ONE out there last year and now I'm trying hard to get some to come back and stay. I even planted special flowers for them... fricking unappreciative little birds.

16. I'm so glad things are looking up for you ..
And it has been way too long my friend. I so enjoyed meeting you and talking about all sorts of stuff. I'm in panic mode at the moment. Laid off work, they say for 2 weeks, but this company has a bad track record for the way they treat employees, so we'll see. Planning any road trips this year Joani?

18. I wish I could do a road trip but ...
I'm going to be working weekends most of the summer and into the fall selling my photography at a local landmark ~ http://www.ulster.net/~fleamarket/mower/mower.htm
I'm also selling my travel trailer and  my  trike.

I'm really sorry about your layoff. That's bad news anytime. Let's hope they'll call you back soon.
Are you looking for another job while you're off?

17. They are the most demanding birds I know.
Sometimes in the summer they'll hover outside my windows looking in at me as if to say Ahhh ... Hello in there!!! Are you paying attention? My feeder is empty again.

21. If there are flowers blooming in the neighborhood the hummers
will find you sooner rather than later.

It may take a while and a few dumped unused sugar mixes with a new feeder but it's worth the effort.

I know you'll have fun with your family.

BTW ~ I really had a good time and love your guest room! Thank you.

but I can't make it down there this year.
I forgot ~ mr. j_a will be going to the unveiling for his mother. I don't know if I will go with him but I certainly can't go partying as I would like to while he is in mourning.

Darnit! I wish I could hang with you on that weekend. You are going to have such a good time. I'm sorry LynneSin. x(

20. Do you have that beautiful feeder?
Wow. We have only plain feeders with red caps and feeding decks. We don't have squirrels competing with our hummers but we do have THE WORLD'S DUMBEST ORIOLES who insist on trying to jam their fat beaks into the hummingbird feeders rather than using the oriole feeder beside it.

22. I bought it at Lowe's last year.
This years model is a little different. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=287031-60104-HKF-101&lpage=none

You Are So Lucky to have orioles.
I've put out orange slices and oriole feeders in the past without success. x(

24. The orioles don't stay around.
That's what's frustrating. They ignore the oranges and the feeder designed for them and after a while they give up on the hummer feeder. Dumb birds. x(

27. Do the Rose-breasted Grosbeak migrate by you?
http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/i5950id.html

If I'm very lucky I see them for a few days every spring.

There is only one thing you can do ~ enjoy the orioles beautiful song and silly antics as they fight for a taste of something sweet.

29. I've never seen a grosbeak here.
There is a type with a range here (not rose-breasted, AFAIK)
Our orioles are different:
We get some Bullard's

but mostly it's Hooded. The females of both types are grayish-yellow.

32. On the east coast the Baltimore Orioles and the Bullock's Orioles may become one.
For years birders have noticed the flocks are breeding together. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Baltimore_Oriole.html
