A Big Bottom May Be a Good Thing

A type of fat that accumulates around the hips and bottom may actually offer some protection against diabetes, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday.

They said subcutaneous fat, or fat that collects under the skin, helped to improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar
Mice that got transplants of this type of fat deep into their abdomens lost weight and their fat cells shrank, even though they made no changes in their diet or activity levels.

"It was a surprising result," said Dr. Ronald Kahn of Harvard Medical School in Boston, whose study appears in the journal Cell Metabolism.

that in Redding, being sorta fat means you're not a tweeker.

People in stores give me the once over, and are mostly pretty friendly. I'm not sure they'd be so welcoming to the skinny dude picking imaginary sores outside. :P

some types of bodies just store fat there, some sorts of bodies store it in the abdomen which increases your risk of diabetes. Not much you can do about your genetics. The 2 healthiest people I know (in regards to eating all their veggie servings and following low-fat diet and 5+ x a week exercise) are "overweight" but have blood pressure and cholesterol levels that make the doctors' jaws drop. Plus they're physically strong and flexible and not just "for a fat person" but for ANY person. A lot of people refuse to believe it's not all determined by "move more, eat less" It's way more fun to blame an overweight person for their problem than to believe that A) you can be overweight and healthier than a thin person or B) that you have no control over your genetic makeup.
