Question for MAC users
Edited on Thu May-08-08 10:47 PM by romantico
I have a question for those who have iMACS. I got my Mac back in February and love it. Has been working fine.Tonight while online I heard the fan inside go on. Since I have had it I have NEVER heard it come on. Now, it won't shut off. I have shut it down and re started it and even left it off for a while and came back and its still going (only when I turn the computer on)Its pretty loud. My question is, is this normal? What causes it to just start? Why hasn't it happened before. Why would it turn on and stay on? I checked the manual and could find nothing on the fan. I could call support but thought I'd ask here first for any who own Macs and know what the problem could be. Many thanks!

1. My iBook was doing that, so I took it to the Apple Store and asked them to have a look at it.
They couldn't find anything wrong with the computer, said it was normal for the fan to come on sometimes. You might want to have them look at it, though, just in case the fan switch is stuck on or something.

2. Thanks!
I sometimes use it for long periods and don't put it on sleep or anything. Today I was using it a lot so, hopefully having it off all night will fix the problem. If not, I may have to call support and take it back in. Thanks again!

3. Could be a couple of things
It 's normal for the fan to kick on when it gets warm, could be environmental, (it's not February any more) Perhaps you were doing something processor intensive... don't worry about it.

If it runs constant for a hour just being idle or so it be worth a call.

5. Try unplugging it while it's still on
I had a G5 at work do this. The fan was screaming all the time. I simply unplugged it while it was still on. It seem to reset itself and hasn't done it since.

Worth a try?

6. Hey
I unplugged and it stopped. THANKS! I'm still learning with this Mac. I need to learn more about it and study the manual I got. Thanks again! Unplugging it did the trick. How much do I owe you? (LOL)

8. If you want to manually control the fan settings check this out
here's an open source program that lets you manually manage the fan controls.
