Just removed a snake from my basement
It's an old house and the basement is nowhere near finished. And it's been wild and weird outside so I guess mr. snake decided to crawl into the basement for warmth or something. Or to raid one of my mousetraps for food. Anyway, to paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson, "Get this MFing snake out of my MFing basement." So I did. Took a shovel, scooped it into a plastic bag and took it outside. Way outside. To the alley. And away he/she/it slithered, possibly on to a neighbors house. Away from mine at any rate.

10. Nah. No poison
Just a common garden variety garter snake. I just didn't want it in my basement.

6. New movie: Snakes in the Basement
Glad that you saved it, I hate it when people freak and kill snakes, they are too valuable to destroy. My neighbor is deathly afraid of snakes in her garden, I told her if she ever sees one to call me over anytime day or night, I will remove it.

Good on you, despite your fear.

7. You are braver than I would have been under the circumstances
I really don't like snakes at all. But I'm trying to control my terror and not pass it on to my daughter. I can now look at snakes on the tv for a minute or two and have actually looked at them in the zoo (what freaks me out is watching their sides move when they breathe - don't ask me why, but it does). My proudest moment came last year when I had the kidlet down at my godson's house in Florida. We had been to the beach and his mom had put her bathing suit out on a chair in the yard to dry. The men were out at the store getting lunch and we looked out to see a snake crawling up the chair. I called my daughter over to watch it. My best friend was there and she knows how snakes terrify me. She was impressed - of course, there was a sliding glass door between me and the damned thing, so it's nothing like having to do what you did. I hope that Mr./Ms. Snake takes the hint and doesn't come back.

8. Actually,
snakes make good mousers. Though cats are cuddlier. ;)

9. I'm so glad you didn't kill it. I like snakes.
In fact, I once had two pet boa constrictors. They make great pets.
