2. Well, let's see...
There's a conspiracy theory, mysticism, paranormal activity, a homicidal smoke cloud, a ghostly washed up rock star, electromagnetic anomalies, a psychopathic and seemingly indestructible Russian guy with an eyepatch, the hotness that is Claire Littleton, and, for you, this...

4. You have to watch it from the very beginning.
I didn't see the first two seasons, so checked them out at the library. Now, I am all caught up and it just gets better and better. If you try and start watching it now, you will be totally confused.

9. Let's Start With What It's Not About
1. It's not about a team of criminal investigators using technology to solve a crime which they do every week within 50 minutes. With this much technology, there shouldn't be any crime at all.

2. It's not about a group of doctors and nurses working in a hospital together wherein they're having sex with each other or saving lives.

3. It's not about a clique of precocious teenagers who all look like super models living in an exclusive community and everyone is having sex with each other.

What it is about, is a show where you are kept guessing every week. Where there are twists and turns and you are rewarded for your continual viewership. Sure, it has its flaws, and there are considerable flaws. However, it does not condescend to its audience. It does not give you repackaged elements of other successful shows knowing that such elements will bring in a certain demo. Anyone can make a cop show, medical show, lawyer show, or hot teen angst show, and get a certain rating.

LOST is doing something unique. It's taking a big chance, and because of that, they're getting a loyal following.

10. The exec who greelighted it got fired
the pilot (sorry) episode cost $10 Million or so. They canned him...and it brought ABC back from the dead.

12. It provides lots of well-paying jobs here on the island
TV crew pays a heck of a lot better than "Aloha! My name's KamaAina, and I'll be your server tonight. Our specials are: a mac nut-encrusted mahi-mahi..."

23. I've only seen the first two seasons
but I liked the way they have characters from lots of different countries and actual foreign languages with subtitles. It gives it a depth that I haven't seen in commercial TV before (of course now there are many more series with a diverse ensemble cast such as "Heroes").

24. Why I watch it:
To be honest, I didn't start watching it when it first aired because the concept seemed pretty stupid to me. People stuck on an island? Um, ok. Once the first season was over, ABC reran the series again that summer. I watched some show that was on before the pilot episode of LOST came on and simply didn't change the channel in time. After watching just the first five minutes of LOST...I was hooked. Below are the major reasons why:

1. Characters

LOST does the best character development of any show I've ever watched. There are a lot of actors in this thing and you grow to love or at least respect every single one of them. Every episode takes one character and shows you flashbacks from their lives and over time, you put the pieces of their flashbacks together to see how these strangers were connected to each other before the plane crash and what contributed to them being on that plane to begin with.

2. Mysteries

For every question answered on LOST, 10 more questions are raised. It's just enough scifi to keep things interesting enough to want to visit the fan forums to talk about it and re watch the shows for clues. Certain numbers are very significant somehow, characters often hear whispers when deep in the jungle, visions of dead people occur every now and then, a crippled character can suddenly walk, etc. We know the island is special but we know we don't have the full story yet.

3. Online activities

Between each season, the writers come up with wild online games or fake websites to keep us die hard fans busy until the show returns. A few examples include:

www.oceanic-air.com
www.find815.com
www.dharmaindustries.com

LOST places a ton of clues that reference all sorts of things and it's fun to research. Whether it's Buddhism, books, scientists or electromagnetism, the fans go on a rabid google hunt to learn anything that might be relevant to the storyline and answer any of the millions of mysteries.

The entire series can be watched on ABC's website. If you want to see why people are so nuts about it, please watch it from the beginning because nothing will make sense to you if you don't.
