...complain about "freedom of speech." Honestly, these people make my brain hurt. By their logic, we ALL should have radio shows on which to say whatever we want, because if we don't, the radio stations are curtailing our freedom of speech.

1. Wow. These people are seriously stupid. The racists come out pretty quickly.

These people seem to be under the impression that no rap songs on the radio are censored, and that they are played with every curse word, sexual reference, and use of the "n" word intact.

6. The lyrics from the link that JonathanChance posted...
"Coloreds steal your wallets and coloreds have pink feet. Coloreds are loud and obnoxious, when they watch movies. Sticky fingers, what they are, Always try to jack my car, Schwoogies! Or shines, you can call them anything you like. Schwoogies! Watch out, jigs will rob you, day or night. Schwoogies. Mookie doesn't like to work, Just rolls blunts all day long. But there's one job he can do, hold a lantern on my lawn. If someone else has your watch on, you can bet its a moolignon. Shwoogies! All Around, there's Sambos, monkeys, knuckle draggers, So much brown Mandingo, Go Mr. Bojangles (unintelligible). I have no problem singing about the Negroes."

4. Wow - that is blatantly offensive
You would have to have some pretty effed up views to think playing that on the radio is ok. I am amazed it took them 2 months to fire him.

Don't let radio stations and their DJs control this country! :wow:

10. That a guest played it on the air...that's not all THAT offensive
Apparently it was some sort of live performance...the bigot who wrote the song came in with the karaoke tape of "Call Me" and sang this horribly offensive anti-black song on the air. The correct response would have been to pull an O'Reilly, cut the guy's mike and apologize for being stupid. I mean, come on: it's live radio, shit happens; you get the shit off the air, apologize and move on.

What got the DJ canned was that he played it over and over! He played it "several times" on the day it was first aired, and at least one more time two days later. Like he didn't know there was going to be backlash!

5. Even people on DU have talked about the importance of freedom of speech when such issues arise...
I forget what it was about now, it was a few years ago, but I distinctly recall a thread in which some pretty blatant hate speech was being defended because of this notion of "freedom of speech." I recall mentions of Canada's prosecutionof hate speech and such and infringing on liberties and all that. I think there is something inherent to message boards that brings out the douchebags en masse.

7. You should see some of the new messages on there since my last post...
These people are so stupid, I'm surprised they can figure out how to turn on a computer, let alone form words.

9. And the fuckers used a Blondie song to do it.
I hope the band sues the hell out of them for copyright infringement, libel, stupidity, and whatever else they can get their lawyers to come up with to sue them for.

11. Oh, this is rich. Apparently the radio station is "weak and cowardly."
And I quote, from the Topix thread:

"I dont know him, never heard his show, from
what i read ,hes a typical white guy whose been
disgraced by a weak, cowardly radio station,
whose only sponsor seems to be the black militant
way or no way.----If anyone thinks this statment
is incorrect. Please explain to me were, its
incorrect."

12. Topix isn't really on the ball when it comes to removing flagged posts, are they?
Don't know why I bother. These knuckle-draggers are people who think calling me a derogatory term for African-Americans (or a "lover" of those encompassed by that particular term) is some kind of grand insult. As Frank Zappa once said, "I'm not black, but there's a whole lots a times I wish I could say I'm not white."
