Canadian/American citizen question. Anybody know anything about
this stuff? I'm embarrassed to say - I still don't have a passport so I am awfully ignorant about this stuff. My son met a girl on the internet - she happened to live in Canada so after going to see her he married her and is still in Canada - although I don't think really legally but they've applied for papers and stuff.

My question is, if they decide to move back here, how hard will it be for her (the Canadian) to get a job or stay here? I really miss him and hope the hurdles are not too high.

Any comments, help would be appreciated.

Happy Friday!!!

We married (in the USA) on a friday and on the monday went to see an immigration lawyer. He handled all the paperwork and I had my work permit in about 4 weeks I think. Husband had to provide financial information proving he could support me. I had to do medical exam, fingerprints, HIV test, background check etc etc ...

All in all it really wasn't hard at all. I don't know what the procedure is for him bringing a new wife BACK with him. As I said, I came here.

PM me if you think I might be of any help w/questions.

2. Try here:
http://www.geocities.com/immigration_helpsite/I-130/index.htm

This explains the process for getting a spouse into the country...

If they're not really married and they want to live in the States it's best that your son returns to the States, files for a K-1 Fiance(e) visa and they get married here in the States. Then file for I-130 (Green Card application).

If they're married and they want to return then it's straight to the I-130 application and a long wait. I waited a little over 2 years for my I-130, though we went the K-1 fiance(e) visa route first. The process requires lots of form filling, providing lots of paperwork, being subject to all kinds of background checks and waiting and waiting and waiting.

Mark.
