Baseball wants to speed up games
-Umpires should urge batters to approach home plate from the on-deck circle and enter the batter's box faster, and to enforce rules such as issuing an automatic strike to batters who linger outside the box.

-In bases-empty situations, pitchers should be warned if they don't pitch within a 12-second time limit. Pitchers will be called for a ball for each subsequent violation.

In addition to those existing rules, conferences on the pitcher's mound will be broken up more quickly, and teams will be asked to have a reserve player or coach ready to catch warmup pitches if a catcher isn't ready.

Teams will also be fined for repeated violations of league rules for in-game entertainment, public address announcements and music and video presentations, such as running too long.

Y'know how they could shave like 15 minutes off every game? Tell Faux Sprots, "Fuck you, we're gonna have two minutes between innings, and if you sell more ads than that, it's YOU people are gonna get pissed at when the game comes back on and there's already one out."

9. Hear, hear!
Besides...look at the actual time of game. Most of the time, a baseball game comes in under 3 hours. Granted there are exceptions, but hell, that happens in any sport.

NFL clock playing time = 60 minutes
average real time duration of an NFL game = 3 hours and 6 minutes

http://individ.blogspot.com/2005/12/some-nfl-arithmetic.html

or even longer -- depends on who you ask:

I just did the math. Today's mlb games -- the quickest of which was 2:07 (Tampa Bay at Oakland), the longest of which is probably going to be the St. Louis vs. San Diego game (because it's high-scoring and there were a few injuries which caused delays -- delays which ARE included in the official game time). Except for that game, the longest completed game today was Kansas City at Boston, which was 3:19.

Tampa Bay at Oakland 2:06
Kansas City at Boston 3:19
Seattle at Detroit 2:39
Balitmore at Yankees 2:59
Angels at Toronto 2:50
Texas at Minnesota 2:24
Cleveland at White Sox 2:45
San Francisco at Colorado 3:10
Mulwaukee at Pittsburgh 2:31
Mets at Atlanta 3:14
Arizona at Florida 2:33
Philadelphia at Washington 2:58
Cubs at Houston 2:36
Cincinnati at Dodgers 2:41

But let's slow it down.

Sheesh.

3. Why? What's the big freakin' rush?
Isn't part of the enjoyment of baseball, just sitting out watching on a leisurely afternoon?

4. Uh? What? Wait a minute.
Half the fun of a baseball game is being able to linger at the park for hours, eating peanuts and hot dogs and drinking beer and enjoying a leisurely summer day.

6. Then they should have stayed home, I guess.
Or let them leave earlier and listen to the rest of the game on the radio.

7. And if they bring the little kids
figure on leaving early anyway.

Actually, I don't know where this came from. It may be that the owners just pulled it out of their corpulent buttocks in yet another effort to fix that which ain't broke.

8. Count all fouls as strikes (allowing foul-outs)
Edited on Thu May-22-08 12:33 AM by pokerfan
Rather that issuing intentional walks via four intentional balls, just issue an intentional walk by having the pitcher throw a hanky or performing the chicken dance.

Cut the games to seven innings.

Eliminate extra innings. In the event of a tie, the game shall be decided by three rounds of rock-paper-scissors between the managers.

If we're gonna fuck with the game, let's really fuck with it.

12. Ya, and if the batter smashes his toe with the baseball, give him 5 seconds to get his ass back....
in the box or ring him up. The same goes for getting hit by a pitch. Run your ass down to first base in 10 seconds or get rung up.

Comcrap bought a majority stake in FSN and they play a shitload of their stupid commercials every FN break.

I think the pace of the game is just fine as it is.

If any sport needs to be sped up, it's stupid basketball. Cut down on the 70% of foul calls that are obvious flops.

That punk Chris Paul should be fined for trying to instigate that BS foul with Bowen. He walked up to him right beside him and acted as if Bowen shoved him. Little crying punk, enjoy the off season.
