My chances range from slim to freaking none... I just sent the poem I posted the other night to ..........The New Yorker! Talk about starting at the top... I must be delusional, or nuts, or both! But still, there might be a chance... Don't hold your breath! Just wish me luck, OK? Thanks...

a long time ago i had a poem published in a national magazine. about a year ago i googled my name and i found a link to someone's myspace page. this girl had kept my poem (probably at least 20 years old) and had typed it up on her front page--along with the author's name--me! i was so damn flattered. i couldn't believe it. i printed out a copy of her page. (i would have said thank you and i'm glad you like it, but i wasn't a myspace user so i didn't know how to tell her) it was pretty cool.

I do music, not poetry, but my feeling is that you should always submit your stuff to places that you think would be a good fit, not what you think will take your work. I've found that reaching high can be a very good thing and have a good outcome - you just have to be used to a lot of nonresponses and rejection letters. I know them well.

Years ago I submitted a short story to the New Yorker. I received a nice rejection notice: " Dave, ha ha ha...very funny. see you in august." turned out an old friends husband was working as a reader at the New Yorker. We all had a good laugh. best rejection notice I ever received.
