Sherpa beats Everest record again
(snip)
A Nepalese sherpa has climbed Mount Everest for the 18th time, beating his own record for most ascents of the world's highest peak, officials say.
(snip)

(snip)
His nearest challenger is fellow Sherpa guide Chhewang Nima, 42, who has made 15 successful trips to the summit.

All props to Appa Sherpa.

4. Well I plan on climbing Mt Greylock on Saturday
all 3,000 feet of it :) Maybe that makes me fit to offer Appa a beer in tribute. While offering a "I'm not worthy!" Wayne's World type supplication :)

3. I've pretty much stopped watching that show
but when I did and when I do still stop and watch a bit if I'm channel surfing it is the Sherpas that most interest me but part of the reason I have stopped watching it is because so little attention is paid to them as compared to the people who've shelled out something like $20K to be escorted up the mountain by them. I mean to imply that even being 'escorted' up Sagarmatha is an easy feat, still there is something distasteful in seeing the attitudes of most of those people and the crowding.

Of course they provide the income that allows the Sherpas like Appa Sherpa to provide for their families  so who am I to protest but not watching the show shouldn't hurt anyone.
