so did anyone expect that big shocker on Top Chef las night? (Spoilers)
I was really expecting them to punish Lisa for throwing Andrew under the bus last week, never saw Dale's elimination coming. Especially since he nearly won the quickfire and did win last week. In fact, has anyone ever been kicked off a week after winning an elimination challenge?

1. I was shocked to see Dale go too.
I was really bummed that Andrew left. And I was thrilled to see Anthony Bourdain as a guest judge again.

2. I wasn't at all surprised, actually.
Dale was the Executive Chef and normally in that sort of situation, the judges will take out the person they deem most responsible for the team's failure.

I saw it coming a mile away.

Dale is the perfect example of somebody who is INCREDIBLY talented, but severely lacking in interpersonal skills.

Lisa will probably be next. She's got major issues with taking criticism, not to mention a very negative attitude. I agreed with Dale on that one.

6. I happened to see it on again this morning
You're right in that Dale, while he may be a good chef, has severe personnel issues. I think though that Lisa is a big cause of that, just like how she sacrificed Andrew to save her own ass, she destroyed Dale in this episode. If you are executive chef, you've got to be able to handle people like Lisa, Dale failed at that and the combination of him making poor dishes, sealed his fate.

8. Yeah, they did it to Tre in another season
head chef has to take responsibility.

I didn't like Dale.

But I'm not sure I like Lisa either.

I tend to go for the contestants that talk about the food rather than about themselves.

10. You're right...
that's what happened with Tre.

When I think that Spike is staying longer than Dale, I think WTF? But based on this episode alone, I can understand it. Plus, he DID attempt Butterscoth Scallops - hee hee!

12. Last year it was Trey that got the boot for Restaurant wars
and Trey was kicking some serious ass during the season but he was also the exec chef for his team.

3. Lisa is a lying bee-yotch with a mug on. NO WAY will she win, because who wants to hire HER? But
can we PLEASE get rid of her incompetent arse??

4. Interestingly, none of the judges updated their blogs this week
at the Bravo Top Chef site so we get no insight as to what they were thinking. http://www.bravotv.com/Top_Chef/season/4//index.php

Former Top Chef contestant Lee Anne Wong works and blogs for the show and she said that Dale is a different person when he's not in the midst of the competition. However, his arrogance gets the best of him, in my opinion. He is very talented but he just thinks he's better than everyone else, so much so that he sabotages himself. I can't imagine Dale giving away his prize the way that Richard gave his prize to Stephanie after the wedding challenge. I hope he isn't so bitter that he actually learns from this experience because I do believe he is a top chef, maybe just in lower case. ;)

5. not me -- he failed on multiple counts.
the show pretty much exposed his failures in the episode -- and frankly no one hit all the low water marks he did in that challenge.

the elimination. He was the first cheftestant to win both in the same week, and then the next week he was eliminated, IIRC.

As for Dale, I think it could have gone either way this week--his food wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as Lisa's, according to their comments. But his leadership was sorely lacking, and it isn't the first time that his attitude has caused problems, so it wasn't quite out of the blue. Now if they can just get rid of Lisa and Spike there will be a great final three :D

9. the final three better be Antonia, Stephanie, and Richard
Edited on Fri May-23-08 09:02 AM by charlie and algernon
That's a wide open final, any of those three would be deserving of Top Chef
