Another difference between CA and MN...
In CA - they use the Emergency Broadcast System to broadcast Flash Flood warnings. In MN they stick with the regular weather casters to do that.

3. Major thunderstorms for here - this storm would barely be a blip in MN
I have seen the gigantor puddles. Storm sewers are not as deep here. :hi:

10. heard a tornado touched down in Riverside
CA is way more concerned -- obviously -- with earthquakes than storms - even though they do come.

12. It was surreal.
We were in the car listening to KFWB for traffic report and the words Tornado Warning came over the air.

:wow:

There were at least two tornadoes in Riverside county yesterday. One near March Air Reserve Base and one near Lake Elsinore.

9. If it is about to burn your house down, you should have evacuated by then
That being said, I had our radio set to the emergency AM channel that the city runs when we were not sure whether to evacuate or not.

11. In Texas, flash floods kill more people than any other kind of weather.
It's because we have a lot of low-water crossings that people keep driving into, especially in the Hill Country at night when it's harder to tell how deep the water is. They've started putting up barricades at some of the more dangerous crossings.

And ever since so many people were killed in the Jarrell tornadoes a few years ago, the weather stations do spend a lot of time on coverage when serious storms pass through. There were some complaints that there were not enough warnings before the Jarrell tornadoes but those storms did intensify very quickly.

Our cable company, Time Warner, does loud audio warnings that we hear on every channel, even if we are playing back a recorded show on the DVR. They don't last long but they are helpful.

However, last week, we missed recording both Boston Legal and Law & Order due to hour-long coverage of tornadoes, high winds and large hail which did ultimately cause a lot of damage. I found out the next day that Law & Order was rerun later that night and wouldn't be run again (yeah, right! ;)) but that Boston Legal would be run the night I was checking so we were able to set up the DVR to catch it (it was the one where Denny Crain was going to run for president -- glad I didn't miss it! :))

How is your ankle? :hi:

15. Out here, all the stations are in Honolulu
so every time it storms on another island one or two hundred miles away, they cut into the show even though there's no weather here! :grr:
