3. When I was but a wee lad, many moons ago, my Dad would take
Me shopping with him every Saturday (going to market was Dad's job, Mom couldn't grocery shop to save her life), we would stop at the local Rexall that had wooden floors, and a real, live soda fountain with a Soda Jerk in paper hat that would serve you up a real, live Vernors, made with actual cane sugar for those small, crisp little gas bubbles that would make me sneeze every time they went up my nose.

Every time I drink a Vernors I get transported back to that exact time and space.

It was awesome stuff. The Vernors made today is a pale rendition of the original, but still pretty good.

18. Jones Soda has cane sugar.
We also buy Coke from Hispanic grocers that's made in Mexico that has cane sugar. Excellent!

25. My dad made "Boston Coolers" (Vernors and Vanilla ice cream)
We always wondered why they called them Boston Coolers, when Vernors was from Detroit.

My mom always gave us Vernors when we were sick to our stomachs. Whenever we travelled to visit friends who had moved out of Michigan, we always had to bring them Vernors, Faygo (which is still made in Detroit) and Stroh's.

4. Me. I remember it in glass bottles.
And I agree it was better in the 60's and 70's.

6. Used to drink it all the time
Thought about it a few weeks ago, didn't see it at the store, they must not carry it.
Recall something from the 60's that I think was somewhat similar called Pomac?

However, pour it into a wide mouth glass so it sparkels up and makes you sneeze. Drinking from the can you can't appreciate its bubbliness enough. It's great to drink when your stomach is doing flip flops too. Now, you make me want to go out and buy some. Crap, some poster said it was even better back in the old days. I don't think that had that in the south, just Coca-Cola stuff.

11. I watched the bottling line through a big window on Woodward Ave
when I was a little boy in Detroit. Vernors had a bottling plant downtown by a bus stop.

Have not tried it in years. Is it still the same? I assume Vernors was bought out long ago by the big boys.

Try it mixed with vanilla ice cream (de-fizz first). Mmmmmm.

13. But of course. It would be a weird ginger ale to use in mixed drinks though.
The first time I had it I complained that it burned.

15. Tried and LOVED it when visiting my sister and her DH in
Michigan about 10 years ago. Been hooked on it ever since - but can't find it in CT. They ship some to us every now and then, and I order by the case from an internet grocer. Mix with gin for a great summer drink!

23. Good stuff.
It's thicker and sweeter than ordinary ginger ale, but with a burn to it that pleases me. I don't dig spicy food or drink; Vernor's is just right.

26. Me!
Try it warm when you have a cold or the flu; I don't mean room temperature but actually heated. Mmmm...

I remember Towne Club too; it wasn't available in the East Lansing area where I grew up but my grandparents always had it at family get-togethers in Mt. Clemens and my sister and I would be so excited for the Towne Club. We would drink a ton of it.

28. Grew up on it, too.
Vanilla ice cream and Vernors - an ice cream soda fit for the gods.

And it produced belches that could be mistaken for freighters out in Saganaw Bay.
