57. that's the beauty of acid - you drop it
and it picks you up.

(Sounds like a Yakov Smirnov joke - in Soviet Russia, acid drops you!)

41. Well, "better" is subjective, but I would say that LSD is far more powerfully mind-altering.
You perceive the world as if you were an alien being with no sensory or cognitive filters - anything is possible, anything is thinkable. Of course, if you find yourself exploring some of the darker parts of the mind, this CAN turn into a bad thing.

8. Yep
The best was LSD in a liquid suspension. You just placed a couple of drops on the back of your hand and, voilla, the next thing you knew, the world started to change.

It facilitated a very fun afternoon at the Hirshorn Museum of Modern Art, but the "We Fly" IMAX at the Air and Space Museum was a little intense.

some years WAY more than once. everyone should, I think.

My first time ws at the Grateful dead (of course)on NYE 1968-69. I was 13. Kool Aid was passed around and my cousin (much older) told me don't drink too much.

To this day my Mom says "You were always different after that week you spent in San Francisco."

36. Ha!
My lover made a major drug deal. For himself I'd quit by then. So he goes to get the money. And the guy and I are talking.....

"So, what do you do for a living?'
"I'm an undercover DEA agent and you are under arrest."

My lover was mad as hell when he found out and said I almost got us both killed. Nah, the guy was almost about to faint and I'd known him for years, he didn't own a weapon and if he had he couldn't have brought himself to use it.

Khash.

46. I can't believe how many times some people have taken the stuff.
I've only tripped on it 7 times myself, on top of maybe 25-30 'shroom trips, and I can already sort of feel the "fry," for lack of a better term. I'm perfectly functional, mind you, but I can just tell that my mind is "different" now.

I've had big pills, little pills, candy, paper, capsules. Some were LSD, some mescaline, some psilocybin, and I could never tell for sure what was what. Some were undoubtedly cut with speed. They were all psychedelic to me and I really think the setting and my own emotional state had more to do with the experience rather than which drug it happened to be. Really, if someone gives you a pill how can you tell which psychedelic you just took, or how much? To me it seemed just like the difference between being drunk on whiskey or beer. Drunk is drunk.

I knew people who took it everyday for a week! I couldn't even contemplate that. The trips I took were always draining and I was in no mood for a little "hair of the dog" the next day. Also 90% of my trips were alcohol free. I didn't drink at all till I was about 24 and then I learned I could use booze as a sort of brake on the drug. Enough alcohol will overwhelm anything. There were some times during my earlier trips that I would have liked to have that braking effect. I can't say I ever had a "bad trip" as a whole, but I think all of the booze-free trips always included some periods of great sadness. All the emotions are pushed to the limit at one time or another during a trip.

I would very much like to try it again after all these years, but I think I might chicken out if I really had the drug in my hand. As I've grown older and "wiser" I've been happier than I ever could have been at 20, but I've also been sadder than I could have been at 20. So the thought of taking something that might very well include the most exquisite sadness I've ever experienced is not too appealing. If I was confident of avoiding any bad times however, I'd be eager to take it again because it can also be an extreme blast in every other way. I think right after winning the lottery while on your honeymoon would be an excellent time to trip. I'd NEVER take it while going through some kind of emotional upheaval. I think that would just be asking for trouble.

I'm sure there must be a lot of beneficial things to learn about ourselves by studying this drug and it's effects and learning how to control it. I'd love to see Dick Cheney take some real LSD. I'd be willing to make some serious sacrifices to see that. I'd pay a thousand dollars gladly. I think either he'd be a better person for experiencing it or else he'd kill himself. One or the other. It's win/win. I'd like to see him look at himself in the mirror while wearing that big stupid-ass cowboy hat. In fact, now that I'm thinking about this, I think it would be a good idea for all of the world's leaders to take LSD in a safe and carefully monitored setting. Seriously. I think that would be a wonderful idea to open the eyes and hearts of some of these up-tight, narrow-minded and mean bastards. There's a good reason LSD is known as a "mind-expanding" drug. That's certainly an accurate description.

56. Yes.
I've been in intractable ear and skull pain since I had surgery in 1976 to remove an invasive tumor.

LSD was the ONLY thing that EVER took the pain away. Percocet and Morphine blunt the pain so I can function, but acid stops it completely ... for about a week.

I haven't taken any since 1985. The risks are just too great. I am the world's unluckiest person and would certainly find myself behind bars within a week if I went looking for it today.

---

Funnily enough, I knew Timothy Leary. Around 1983-4, I got snowed into a lecture he was giving. Only five of us showed up since a blizzard was forecast. Me and my friend were the only members of the audience who weren't too stoned to talk. So my friend, Tim, and I sat around chatting for some time until the plows came around and freed our cars.

We never spoke about drugs -- it was all about computers and artificial intelligence.

Yes, he was a charismatic guy. Incredibly intelligent. Charming, certainly. A visionary in every way. And keep in mind, my impression is based on him while we were both straight and NOT talking about entheogens or pop gnostic mysticism. His passing was a greater loss than we'll ever know.

Besides having a bad trip once, there was something I never quite liked about it.

Mescaline was the best hallucinogenic I've ever tried. Very easy going mellow trip. The visuals were the best.
I spent a lot of time drawing and looking at artwork.
