I need some input gals and guys- If you have a moment, please read the following scenario and tell me if I’m within my rights to be ticked off.
My s/o and I belong to a Mardi Gras Krewe (let’s just say it’s a social group). My s/o’s boss is also a member and is on the committee to plan a fundraiser for the summer. For the past couple of months, my s/o and I have been planning a party based around a movie that’s something of a cult classic in the gay world (Sordid Lives). In late July, LOGO is premiering a series based on the movie, and among our peers, we’re one of the few households that gets that channel. So, we announced that we were having a party (appropriately themed and planned) on the night of the show’s premiere. We told everybody the date (so they could mark their calendars) and the premise, and promised to send the formal invites out at a later date.
Well, today- my s/o’s boss tells him that he and some of the other members of the committee (who were all told of our plans and verbally invited to the party) were brainstorming about fundraiser ideas, and they came up with a FABULOUS idea: and the idea was almost word for word the party we were planning on having, except that they would show the actual movie instead of watching the premiere of the TV series. Every other detail was the same. My s/o was just floored, and said, “You’re seriously going to basically steal the idea for the party that we have already started planning?”
The response to that was (and I quote), “So?” :wtf:
Honestly, I’m less pissed about the actual use of our idea (which the 2 could easily be merged or dovetailed- I already have ideas about that) than the “So?”.
What say you, wise DUers- Dispense your opinions! Is this a case of asshattery, or am I getting pissed over nothing?
Thanks to you all!
