My stupid bra doesn't fit right.
Why is it so damn hard to get a bra that fits well?

x(

Any DU ladies have any tips? Stores you have luck with? Brands?

ARGH!

23. I've had no problem with mine (mentioned downthread) shrinking or changing shape from washing.
Edited on Wed May-28-08 03:57 PM by Dangerously Amused

I machine wash them on the delicate cycle, but always hang them up to dry - even the sport bras - because the heat and artificial dryness from the dryer can cause the elastic to distort. I've wrecked more than one really nice bra that way before I figured it out. x(

15. I guess it depends on your size.

I'm a 32-34 full C, and my breasts are set a little wider apart, so yeah finding something to fit well is a real PITA. But I've had very good luck with the Bali "Cool Effects" and "Seductive Curves" models. That and I pretty much live in a sport bra around the house, esp in the summer.

Good luck!

57. You're welcome!
Check them out, buy one bra you love, make mental note of the sizes and brands that fit you. They'll bring you about 60 bras to try on after you are fitted, so plan to spend a few hours. The service is impeccable, but the prices go along with it. You can probably find better deals online if you're willing to shop around, but most of the good stuff seems to come out of the UK, France and Germany. :)

Turns out I had been wearing a 34B all that time and needed a 34C, and maybe even "barely a D, or at certain times of the month"!

Now back in the US, I buy the IPEX at Victoria's Secret. I HATE Victoria's Secret for their stupid ad campaings and general level of pornification, but, even at $50, this bra is amazing. Mine have lasted about 2-2.5 years on average before needing replacement. Well worth the investment.

51. Buy a smart bra next time.
:7

http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s131388.htm

Smart Bra to give support when it's needed

Australian scientists are developing a bra made of 'intelligent fabrics', which will change its properties in response to breast movement, giving better support to active women when they need it most.

Scientists at the University of Wollongong say the 'Smart Bra' will tighten and loosen its straps, or stiffen and relax its cups, to restrict breast motion, preventing breast pain and sag.

The University predicts the Smart Bra will outperform any existing bra in the support stakes, that it will encourage more large-breasted women back to sports, and even stop clavicles from snapping from the sudden movement of excessively heavy breasts.

The researchers are currently at a preliminary stage with their work, using polymer fabric sensors attached to the straps of a standard sports bra to measure strain and stresses caused by different movements. A sensor attached to the midriff also measures breathing restriction.

Sensors are hooked into a telemetry device, worn by a model in motion, that relays data in realtime to a computer. Information will be gathered using a broad range of model sizes under different movement conditions and eventually stored on a tiny microchip. This will serve as the 'brain' of the Smart Bra, signalling the polymer fabric to expand and contract in response to breast movement.

However, there are a few challenges to overcome. For a start, the researchers have to be careful not to develop a bra that overreacts!

58. whenever I can get away with it
(as in the straps won't show) I wear sports bras. they're just so easy. I prefer the kind that open in front. I just get Hanes Her Way.

I can't wear bras that have that underpadding in them because then I get "muffin top boob," which is particularly lovely... but that's probably b/c my bras are too small now cause I've gained weight b/c of medicine I've taken over the last year, plus being a couch potato. I can't wear camisole bras anymore.

I do know that the correct bra size is supposed to hook on the middle hook.

If I were seeing someone, I'd buy some fun bras, but since I'm not, I just go for functional.

60. A long time ago there was a thread in here...
Where someone had a problem with bras that didn't fit, and someone else (I don't remember who) explained how most women aren't wearing the right size bra. And there was some simple adjustment in the letters and numbers that would give relief. I actually found it interesting, though I don't recall the details.

You might find it with a search. It's probably been a couple of years. I didn't bookmark it because there were no pictures.

68. If you resemble Dolly Parton..
Like I do then I recommend Goddess bras. I ordered mine online from Nordstrom's(maybe) and really love the fit. I live in the boonies so anything over D-cup can't be found in store.

69. I just discovered this bra a couple of months ago and I love it.
I'm a 36DD and this holds the girls in place and keeps the back fat in check. It's also great if you have protruding nipples as mine have been since breast feeding.

70. The straps are always TOO DAMN SHORT
Where the hell do you find strap extensions?

And the bras that ostensibly come in my size forever have cups that run real small. I can't seem to find a bra that runs true to size, unless they manipulated bra sizes the way they cooked dress/pants sizes.
