Sometimes I still think of her...

Like today. And that is enough for me to share this with you all.

Sometimes, to solace my sad heart, I say,
Though late it be, though lily-time be past,
Though all the summer skies be overcast,
Haply I will go down to her, some day,
And cast my rests of life before her feet,
That she may have her will of me, being so sweet
And none gainsay!

So might she look on me with pitying eyes,
And lay calm hands of healing on my head:
Because of thy long pains be comforted;
For I, even I, am Love: sad soul, arise!;
So, for her graciousness, I might at last
Gaze on the very face of Love, and hold Him fast
In no disguise.

Haply, I said, she will take pity on me,
Though late I come, long after lily-time
With burden of waste days and drifted rhyme;
Her kind, calm eyes, down drooping maidenly,
Shall change, grow soft: there yet is time, meseems,
I said, for solace; though I know these things are dreams
And may not be!

Like heartwrenching but then good inside. :) I ache for her. Have for years. :)

My mother always recommended that I read:

I have always been afraid read it.

Which compelled me to write this crummy poem:


DARK COMPASS

Compass of my life,

love that was never meant to be.

Dark beacon defined by absence,

lightning rod of powerless rage.

Guide of my life,

and focus of frustrated fury.

Absence that defines me,

background that marks,

a place I never was.

Each sentence pulled me into the next. Very nice.

It's my latest submission. I usually put up my latest work on my blog for a short time before I take it down. I haven't heard back from the magazine on it yet.

Your mastery of storytelling reminds me of long winter nights,
listening to family ramblings.

Listening to friends, neighbors and family visit and talk all night. It made me want to be a storyteller, an entertainer. Writing was the next logical step. Glad you liked it.

How very beautiful and poignant your story is...

when I read the Hempel story, it made me want to do something like that. Shortly thereafter I had the dream about the maze, and then I wrote my first draft. After a few years of crafting it, I finished it a few months ago. I did my final edits right after I talked to her on the phone, for the first time in nearly 5 years. :)

Believe me when I say it moved me to tears. For many reasons.
