Skinny as in not so dang clunky..... smaller, more European in style.

1. More expensive places that sell european imports or inspired stuff, maybe
Unfortunately stuff designed for the US market is generally overstuffed to death, between ever-growing houses and the widening of the American ass.

4. We have an obese furniture crisis in this country. Super-sized.
all the above suggestions are good.

We bought Mission couches, Stickley, and they are great and comfortable, and Not Gigantic.

Antiques are also more sensibly sized, and some don't cost all that much.

9. CB2 is great
I got a lot of stuff from there. It's the Crate and Barrel people, but it's not as stuffy. And you can get some really good stuff on sale, too. CB2

14. I live in a 50's ranch style house.... I absolutely LOVE IKEA!
They opened near me about 2 years ago, and I
resisted going for about a year.
(It's an hour drive from my house)...

BUT, once I got in there, the SCALE of the
furniture DELIGHTED ME, for just the reasons
stated in these posts.

No GIANT, overstuffed HULKS of furniture!

I just bought all new furniture for my youngest
daughter's room (my oldest is returning from
India this Tuesday and re-claiming her old
room). Bed, night-stand, dresser, desk, chair
shelves and decorations for $400.00!!!

And she feels like a princess in there!

The rest of my house is decorated in what I
call the "Late Grandparent Period", but now
her bedroom is modern and she loves it.
