Extended Family
Edited on Thu May-29-08 11:13 PM by KitchenWitch
My husband's two aunts were in town for the past week and a half. We have been going back and forth to his parents' place for the duration. We have been eating Asian takeout almost every night this whole time. Tonight we had Italian takeout. It was a refreshing change.

It was wonderful to see them, but it will be nice to get back to our normal routine.

Oh, and in the meantime, my MIL decided she wanted to get a pay as you go cellphone, but my FIL would not buy one. She enlisted me to buy it for her. I bought it, got it set up, put some money on it and now she has a cell phone. Since they are traveling up to San Francisco this weekend and she is in such lousy health, it makes me feel better that they have a phone with them.

1. My dear KitchenWitch!
Ah, how well I understand!

Having company, and visiting and eating out are all well and good...

And after a while the old tried and true routine looks wonderfully attractive!

Glad you had a good visit with them...

2. It was a good visit.
There were some moments, however. I found some things quite humorous, perhaps the same things that I would not find so funny in my own family of origin.

3. it's always nice to have visitors but it is nice to get your routine back.
my sister and her kids are staying here for 2 weeks, i'll be really happy to have them but i'm sure after 2 weeks we'll be happy to resume normal daily operations.

4. I just want to eat my own cooking for once.
I think I have gained like 15 pounds this week.

5. i bet you're sick out eating at restaurants. I get tired of it on vacation and when
people come to stay. I'm planning on doing a lot of grilling when they get here and only eating out when we take a day trip or an overnighter.

6. Yeah.
I like to be able to control the amount of seasoning in my food. Can't really do that with takeout. My MIL does not cook so we were kind of stuck doing the takeout thing. I would have loved to cook for everyone but was told that it would not be necessary.

7. I can understand your concerns KitchenWitch ...
If you will take my advice you might want to remind your MIL and FIL, since they are traveling to S.F. to avoid strange alley-ways, and David Lo-Pan, especially if your MIL has green eyes.

This could save you and your husband countless hours of searching the endless underground passages beneath Chinatown in search of Lo-Pan's lair.

Even if you fought your way through this hellish underworld you would still have to contend with the three storms who are fiendishly loyal to Lo-Pan.

8. There is not a green eye in the bunch.
:hi:

My FIL is pretty savvy and will not go anywhere that is unsafe.

9. The last time my MIL visited, I ordered in for us and took her out
because that gave us more time with her while she was here. She didn't like it because apparently she thought we did that all the time.

But, you know, I didn't really care. We had some good time together -- we went to parks and museums and stuff -- and even if she thought I was a lazy worthless slut who just ordered food every minute of the day, at least we didn't keep her waiting.

13. Winning was making a workable plan.
Believe me, that was enough. And she liked the Hall of Flowers in GG Park that we went to instead of hanging out in my hot kitchen.

Progress not perfection. lol :)

14. Yes, I am aboard with the progress not perfection idea.
I have stopped bending over backwards to please those that are unpleaseable.

It does make us feel better that they have it.

12. It really is a good way to go.
I know they did not want a contract. And I also know that they are not going to burn through the $20 I put on the phone anytime soon. I will likely have to put money on the phone in 3 months so they can keep their phone number (and they will have even more minutes.)
