Is there a prettier and sadder song? I think not.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... world
Enlarge your world
Mad world

2. I can't listen to it more than twice in a row.
It's too depressing. It's so beautiful, though.

4. ....

Music can be very affecting; it must be even more so when you're suffering greatly.

Love you.

5. Cats in the cradle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlHdjjHNEC8

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

If it comes on the radio, I have to shut it off.

10. open a vein sad
I went on a trip last month which I rarely do and the guys played it over and over. I was holding back tears while thinking of my 7 1/2 year old. I don't care if I ever hear it again!:hi:

15. Hate it
My HS Commencement speaker thought it would make an excellent commencement speech. (Quoted in full, and with little commentary)

Plus the arrangement is just ridiculous. That's the sort of song where you just want a guitar and voice. The sitar is bad enough, but the strings are absurdly over-the-top.

9. Depends on which version.
The original, not so much. The remake, possibly.

11. I laughed when I heard the original!
Very different genre!

I had NO idea TFF did it. I heard the remakes (REM & Gary Jules) before I ever heard the original.

Hey, good job with the car incident the other day. Has your heart rate returned to normal yet? Boy oh boy that little Jack is a dickens! Lucky for him he's so damn adorable.

I was just trying to figure out who sings it and also thinking there was some Tears for Fears connection, which there is! It's their song! http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=4381
