Paying Bills online-safe?
I've been paying bills online with Bank of America for the last 9 months. What is everybody's opinion around here? I haven't had any problems so far, but recently I've been getting the hebbie-jeebies about doing it. I've never bought anything online either. I'm just so afraid of security breaches. Any input, guys?

1. It's safe ...
been doing it for at least 3 years. The only check I write each month is the rent and an occasional subscription.

3. same. I've done it
for 4 or 5 years now with no problems.

I worry more about people standing too close at the ATM than about banking from the privacy of my peecee. That said, I'd NEVER access my accounts from a work or (gawd forbid!) public machine.

4. I do it, I love it!
But what I recommend to my jittery clients is a separate checking account and one specific credit card for online stuff (one with a $500 limit say). That way if there's a security breach, not that big of deal.

5. I have used on-line bill pay for years.
I use Quicken with my bank. It is super. I've only had a handful of payments over the years that didn't get credited, but a quick email to the bank gets a proof of payment sent off immediately. Easy, no hassle. I could not live without it. You can schedule all payments that are the same each month to pay automatically, and the rest you set up in reminders so that when you get the bill you just enter the amount and off it goes. This is a feature I just recently started using, but wish I had started long before. Anyway, no more forgetting to send in a payment. Both my sons have used it for as long as they've had checking accounts and they have never had a problem with it either.

6. I love online banking!
I've been doing it for years.

Accounts that I pay the same amount for I have setup automatically and I can take care of all my banking in 20 minutes every 2 weeks. Although my phone, car, electric, etc all offer you to setup paying your bills through their website, I prefer just setting everything up through my bank. That way I can take care of all the payments in one shot.

Downside - I have to pay $5 a month for the service through the bank, but the money I'm saving in stamps and buying paper checks almost evens things out (I would pay about 10 bills a month and at 37 cents a stamp that's $3.70 a month in stamps I'm not buying)

8. I have not written a check in years.
I love my online billpay (I use Wells Fargo). I've never had a problem. The best thing is you can travel and never worry about bills piling up.
