Okay, SPORTS moments that make you want to cry
I've posted it before, but here it is again, to fully gage what this meant to me. Picture a young 14-year-old HEyHEY having grown up in Canada where hockey is thee most important thing. I can't explain to Americans what it means. But beating Toronto (grrr) to go to the finals...the town went fucking insane. Like they do in Brazil after winning a world cup. I hear it now, and all the memory rush hits me.

My speakers can't even handle the crowd noise

1. The 1997 Rose Bowl
I had season tickets to every Arizona State Game. Jake Plummer was my favorite QB and he was winning game after game, they even shut out Nebraska 19-0. The Ohio State/Arizona State Game was a back and forth game. ASU lost 20-17 narrowly defeated, the most heartbreaking game I ever seen. If Arizona State would of won, they would of got the National Championship.

3. 2003 Fiesta Bowl
Nobody gave Ohio State a snowball's chance in hell to win that game. Miami's offense was supposed to be better than some pro teams offense. Ohio State's offense was a low scoring ball hog time control offense that was one of the lowest scoring in the Big Ten. Nobody thought Ohio State's defense couldn't stop the Miami offense and I have grown up watching the Buckeyes lose the big one. On that night every expert, odds maker, wack, quack and cracker jack was shocked. Ohio State shocks the world and upsets the Miami Hurricanes.

Dan Jansen's last chance at the Gold Medal and he wins. Then skating a victory lap with his daughter. It made me cry happy tears.

5. Game 7 of the 2001 WS
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 03:41 AM by WindRavenX
FUCK YOU GONZO!!! FUCK YOU!!! ;( ;( ;( ;(
Never have I ever felt so utterly heartbroken over a sports team.
The look on Derek Jeter's face, and he made one last desperate leap to try to damn near will the ball into his glove as it sailed just out of his reach, was enough to send me bawling.
And people wonder why whenever someone mentions the DBacks I get a pained look on my face...
;(
I didn't sleep at all that night. Seriously.

8. The ball Gonzo hit wasn't past Tino
It was a dying quail shot that landed just on the lip of the outfield grass. The infield was playing in, and if Jeter had been playing at normal depths, the ball would've been caught.
To Yankee fans, this is our 1986 Buckner moment....the heartache will never go away ;(

9. I know it was hit into the outfield
but I could swear the ball was hit well into the outfield in between second and first base. I could be wrong but my memory is telling me otherwise. The heartache will never go away? Your organization won like 20 championships, you don't need to win em' all.

11. 1996's Kerri Strug winning Vault
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 08:23 AM by LynneSin
I was only 13 at the time and never watched a hockey game in my life. I was hooked after that. Talk about your classic David vs. Goliath matchup.

Runner-up would be Kerry Strung in the 1996 Olympics. Let's face it, American Gymnastics never had a shot when the Cold War was in full force (or cold war teams were boycotting like 1980). But Kerry Strung, who wasn't even the team star, need to have a certain score in order for the American girls to win Gymnanstic Gold. After her first vault she twisted her ankle. But she didn't give up and went for the second vault knowing not only the fat of American Gold was on her shoulders, but she'd half to land a perfect vault and stick the landing with a messed up ankle.

She did and they won gold, but she was out the rest of the Olympics because of her ankle.

Geez, I'm crying now as I type this.

12. I wasnt alive then, but every single time I see a clip of Lou Gehrig's
speech to the fans at Yankee stadium I tear up. For this super athletic man to lose every function one expects to have as a human being...and yet, to still be grateful and humble. I wish I were that unselfish.

16. '92 olympics
The brittish guy in the 400 who popped a hammie in the final turn. He gets up, obviously in a great deal of pain, and keeps hobbling along, shoving aside all the med staff trying to stop and treat him. Then from the stands this older guy emerges, the athlete tries to push him away and then realizes its his father coming to help him finish the race.
My description does this no justice whatsoever. Absolutely unbeleivable. I can't beleive no one posted this before.

22. 99 Women's World Cup
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 01:43 PM by LeftPeopleFinishFirs
USA vs. China in 0-0 overtime tie. Went to shoot-out, even after 20 more minutes of play! every shot blocked except one. China allowed one in, and the USA women won! Then Brandi Chastain ripped her shirt off! It was a classic sports moment.

Edit: 1998 Nagano, Kwan loses to Lipinski, gets silver. Then 2002, Michelle Kwan losing to Sarah Hughes and Irina Slutskaya and getting bronze.

After she got the bronze, she was invited to skate again with the others, and she had chosen "Fields of Gold" for her free skate. Very sad. :(

27. Game 5, WS playoffs, 1986 I was sitting in the stands,
Donnie Moore, put in to save the game by Gene Mauch even though he had been blowing saves. The Angels were 1 pitch away from winning. Pitched a 2 run homer to Dave Henderson of the Red Sox. Took until last year to finally get the Angel's a pennant.
