What is the last Cd you purchased? (music thread)

Me, self titled Traffic cd, as well as the new Love and Rockets Greatest hits cd. Actually, I have bought too many cds over the last week but these are the ones I bought today.

Oasis "Masterplan" Fucking Brilliant

since I bought a CD. I think the last one I did buy was a 4-disk Jimmy Buffet box set.

I love the way they pieced it together, with the dialogue between songs kept in for flavor - it's almost like a little bit of music history. Definitely a winner.

See if anyone says THAT about Brittney in 30 years!

I found out a friend had never heard "7 o'clock News", I bought him the Simon & Garfunkel CD with that one on it!

Regretted the purchase, they could have done much better.

I did the same thing buying "OK Computer". I know most critics, lots of fans, and no doubt plenty of DUers consider that one to be one of the greatest albums of all time, but it just never grew on me. Probably the only time I ever bought an album based on critical reviews, which is something I will never do again. I should know that someone with my musical tastes will seldom see eye-to-eye with music critics.

I may be standing alone in saying this, but Pablo Honey is the best Radiohead album ever, IMHO. :-)

Most recently? Radiohead's-'Hail to the Thief' and Blur's-'Think Tank'. I plan to buy the new Dandy Warhol's in a week.

I buy at least 10 cds a week lately and no I'm not rich, far from it. My cd habit is why I had water with salt in it for dinner

Guess who I saw in person July 27th, 6th row back, right-center ... BOB DYLAN - just wonderful; did a lot of his old folk songs (as well as the newer stuff) - heaven, I tell you, heaven!

Great CD - it's been in my CD player since I bought it.

And the radio is playing Traffic's "Can't Find My Way Home" - what a great f-ing tune!

But don't have that cd, I will check it out.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a sort of new wave/garage hybrid from New York with a snarly/sexy PJ Harvey-type singer.

Year of the Rabbit is the new project from Ken Andrews of Failure, one of the most criminally neglected bands of the mid-late 90s.

I read a review of that cd recently. Is it good?

It's not incredible or anything, but they have a unique sound and a certain something beyond that. I wouldn't recommend it without knowing your taste, as they're definitely not for everybody. Check out an MP3 or use the listening station at the record store before plunking down yr. ducats. (Damn, CDs are expensive; luckily I picked both of the above-mentioned titles up used.)

Fabulous album. I highly recommend it to thosee who still like to rock.

What this legend did with "Hurt" is amazing. And the title track kicks ass too.

I just purchased a few more cds online. I ordered all of the "gits" cds(classified as punk), as well as "satie pianoworks" by riri shimada. If you like mellow piano music and haven't listed to Satie, please do yourself a favor and check it out. Not for those who are depressed.

A long while back, a friend and I had the opportunity to "X-periment" with a certain "love/euphoria" causing ticket, and I listened to L%R for the first time - awesome music, and I still like it even being long without the cognitive enhancement.

It was the cd with "No Big Deal" and "Me and the Motorcycle" and "I'm Alive" (man, that I'm Alive song at that time, wow).

While I prefer both Bauhaus and Peter Murphy solo stuff to Love & Rockets, they do have a great sound!

saw Turin Brakes open for David Gray in Austin and bought their latest. really like it. also bought the solo album by an Austinite named Johnny Goudie. (used to be in a band called Goudie.) he's got a killer voice.

The last CD I bought was:

Vienna Philharmonic
Dvorak Symphonies 8 and 9

It's a good recording. VPO has some sloppy and out of tune playing on it, but overall, I like it. The next CD I buy will be the Maazel/Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra box set of Strauss Tone Poems.

Well, the most recent cds were floetry and coldplay.

bought it Jan 03, since then not even one good CD released that was worth buying. Front 242 - Pulse was a great disappointment, after I listened to the MP3s I decided not to buy the CD. :-(

Desperately waiting for the new VNV Nation (Secondskin is great!) and hopefully Diary Of Dreams has a new album out soon too.

so all my latest purchases are Arabic-pop flavored. "Arabesque" is the most recent. Even if you're not a belly-dancer, it's fun stuff to groove to.

Solo album by the lead singer of Soul Asylum; band I've been on a kick for for quite a while now. Very enjoyable album, but substantially different from the band's work. Bought it at the same time as I bought my pseudo-love Michelle Branch's "Hotel Paper". :-)

Those are the last albums I bought; last I was given was the Rhino Records' 7-CD Eighties Box-Set which is a total blast to listen to. Very diverse, very good combination of songs.

... but that last one actually purchased was a selection of Orlando Gibbons fantasias.

....pretty much still exploring the musical they did in Natural Thing and Soul Sonic Orchestra.

I dig it.

I'm way too eclectic in my musical tastes. I also bought James Taylor's Greatest Hits, October Road sometime close to those ones.

I recently saw the documentary "Gigantic," which featured, among many TMBG songs, the works on "Flood." I already had it on tape (Yeah, I'm behind the times) but wanted to have the CD for my collection. Check out "Your Racist Friend," fellow DUers.

One of the most underrated bands.

There's a really great song on there for DUers called "I want you gone" (check out her website for a sample). It's about Bush, natch. Laura Love is the singer/bassist/activist (w/ band) from Seattle. If you get a chance to see her, you definitely don't want to miss it. She puts on the best live show you can imagine. She's so damn funny. I can't begin to describe her style, other than to say that it's highly original and very eclectic. If you like Ani you'll probably like Laura too.

I really enjoyed this album. It is Mr. Gahan's freshman solo effort. I was pleasently surprised with it.

I am hoping that once Dave Gahan's solo tour is over that Depeche Mode will get back together and record another album.

I'm really surprised Supergrass has lasted as long as this. I remember buying 'I Should Coco' back '96 and thinking that this would probably end up being their only album.

It's pretty good, too. I don't have Kid-A or Amnesiac, but I understand its much more accessable than those.

All great except for the disco CD and the Liz Phair. The disco CD has many high points, but is spotty. And Liz's is unique enough because she combines the sheen with her own quirkiness, and it's fun, but it's not genius like Exile In Guyville is. Or even as good as whitechocolatespaceegg. Also, I enjoy Avril's CD more. But there are gems: "Red Light Fever," "It's Sweet," "Rock Me," and "Little Digger."

I'm sure I'll be buying a lot more this year. But, I've ruled out the new Pat Benatar. Never was a fan, but that one sounds pretty bad. Also, I enjoy pop, but Nikki Cleary's CD doesn't appeal to me. She's quite a bit younger than Michelle and Avril, so it's not surprising that Nikki's doesn't appeal. She has potential, though.

the last CD I got was the In Place of Words demo yesterday, which is my friend's band (who played their last show yesterday as well) and since it's just a CD-R and I got it for free it doesn't really count (go look them up at www.mp3.com/inplaceofwords though, it's got 3 out of 5 songs on it)

after that Wednesday at the Mannequin/Circle Takes the Square show I got the Transistor Transistor/Mannequin split 7" (yep, a record. vinyl. they still make these) and the Spirit Lies Broken (a local band that also played the show) demo CD-R for $3.

So the last "real" CD I got was Still Life's "From Angry Heads With Skyward Eyes"

I'm not a country fan, and don't buy very many CD's, but just felt like doing my part. BTW it's a pretty good CD.

Though it's weirdly the only one of theirs (at least of their current lineup) that I don't own, I've heard it numerous times because several of my family members do. I think they should stick with the more traditional, almost bluegrass direction they're taking with some of the songs- though I love their older stuff, too.

It's good to see the Dixie Chicks are poised to be the best-selling country concert act of the year despite the FReepers' best attempts to silence them. Those women are awesome...
