Senior citizens brawl after salad bar dispute
March 5, 2004 | WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (AP) -- A dispute at the salad bar turned
into a food fracas at an upscale retirement home, with a man taking a bite out of
another's arm and other residents suffering minor injuries.

Police said resident Lee Thoss, 62, of the Spring Haven Retirement Community was
picking through the lettuce, which disgusted 86-year-old William Hocker, who was
standing in line behind him.

Hocker told Thoss no one wanted to eat food he had been playing with. Thoss
yelled and cursed at him, Hocker told police, and Hocker called him a nasty name.
Then, witnesses said, Thoss then began punching Hocker in the face.

In the buffet melee that followed, Allen Croft, 79, tried to grab Thoss, who bit him
on the arm, reports said.

And you thought it was red meat that posed a threat!

1. I live............
not too far from Winter Haven. I deal with this stuff on a daily basis from our "greatest generation". Many of these oldsters are rude, cranky and just plain dumb. Which leads me to the reason I'm selling my house here and moving to a more urban, youthful area.
Anybody wanna' buy a house? I'm what they call in the Real Estate Industry, *motivated*.

3. I lived in a College town............
for most of my life, in Upstate New York. Then the winters got to be too much for me. I moved to this hellhole. I know, it's my own fault. I worked in research for 30 years at Eastman Kodak Co. You'd think I'd have done a little more research on this place before I moved here.......bit NOOOOOOOOO! What a fool I was. Anyway, I'm trying may damndest to get out of here.

5. College town in a warm climate?
California?

I know what you mean about winter, we've had lots of snow this year.
If * steals the election again (he can't be re-elected)
I'll leave the US-We went through this same republicrap w/Nixon, Reagan & Daddy Bush!
You know it's bad when Nixon starts to look good!

We hated our 3 years in Florida.
We did like St Augustine & Cassadaga is an interesting place.

4. I witnessed a similar incident at a Home Depot in Port Orange FL
2 seniors standing in a "return merchandise" lane

I guess one guy bumped the other and they came to blows - got real bloody

Police called - EMTs called

it was facinating to watch

They had to be Republicans - always trying to resolve issues with force

6. So now we have Geezer fights over produce and bad manners...
a pre-emptive strike from someone of "The Greatest Generation", I sure hope this is an isolated incident. Then again, there are a LOT of Geezers out there; I think I'll watch my back in the produce section of the store today. Can never tell when some old bat gets ticked because I took a good melon.
