Last vinyl you bought and when
should be different from the CD thread. As said I got the Transistor Transistor/Mannequin split 7" at the Mannequin/Circle Takes the Square show on Wednesday. I bet that's a lot earlier than the majority of people here :)

2. I bought a bunch of vinyl when the stores liquidated to start selling CDs
We had the BEST used record stores in Cleveland Heights. I bought all kinds of used vinyl in a few weeks time. It was a shame that we lost that continuity of treasured vinyl in the stores when they had to get rid of that stock.

Last one? Probably one of Madness' albums. The one with "Night Boat to Cairo".

22. You might be able to make a few sheckels on E-bay
If you have a bunch of stuff that doesn't really interest you. My brother-in-law owned a record store, and eventually just dumped A LOT of vinyl into Lake Michigan. He's really kicking himself now for that move.

15. I went for a birthday party.
My cousin's wife's birthday, to be precise. I got there too late to go to the rally. My brother, however, did go. He also gave me a pic he cut out from the Chronicle of a guy in a cowboy hat in front of the Guv'ner's mansion holding a sign that read "Tom Delay's Bitch!"

Crap. I should have left on Friday night. Anyway, sorry I missed you guys.

7" from 1992 featuring Mark Eitzel of American Music Club, Guided By Voices' "Cheyenne" 7", David Ossman (of the Firesign Theatre)'s "How Time Flies", Split Enz's "Frenzy," a National Health album from 1977, and Steeleye Span's "The Steeleye Span Story", a greatest hits-type album. All bought a couple weeks ago. I try to avoid CD's if I can find good stuff on vinyl.

Oh, yes almost forgot the Wingtip Sloat LP I bought in the same haul. Can't wait to make it out to Frisco and visit Aemoeba rec's again!

7. Early 80s...
When I was somewhere around 8 to 11 years old.

The album was "Pac-Man Fever" by Buckner and Garcia.

I've got Pac-Man Fever, Pac-Man Fever, Pac-Man Fever
And it's driving me crazy, driving me crazy!

It was truly an anthem for a generation.

9. Patti Smyth, Horses
Along with Martha and the Muffins, Nina Hagen, and some others. I have a large vinyl collection(aprox 2000) and am in the process of burning it all onto CD. I've always collected music, and there are some things you just can't get on CD, like A Childs' Garden of Grass, or various foreign pieces. Luckily we have a good vinyl shop here in town(Whiz Records, if you're ever in Columbia Mo) and down the road in St. Louis there is Vintage Vinyl, though the last couple of times I've visited there they've cut their vinyl way back.

14. something late 80's-ish
since that's when I started buying CDs instead. I finally sold all my hundreds of LPs; I was tired of hauling them from house to house when I moved, worrying about warping and scratching and all that.

Some of the LPs did sound better than the CDs, though - some CDs have been very poorly mastered.

28. R. Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders 'Party Record'
A couple of the Suiters were playing a gig down in Berkeley and needed beer money, so they discounted this record so much that I had to buy it. They neglected to tell me it was a 78 rpm and since my vinyl playing machine postdates the 78 rpm era, I was never able to play it. It might become a collector's item because it has Jane Dornacker on it and it may be one of the last 78's ever pressed in the world.

34. Got myself a Technics 1210 a year ago...
and bought lots of vinyl since then again. Never ever digitized one of my CD's ever. Don't discuss sound etc. ppp. Simply love it. Last Record I've bought: Black Uhuru, Black Sounds of Freedom.
CD's are crap. O.K. they aren't crap. They sound incredible good. But they deserve nothing less then being Kazaaed or whatever. Just look back at the days, when capitalism was producing still old products. Now they've digged their own grave. Digged their own graves? O.K. I support it, I buy CD's again, if only these vinyls wouldn't be so damned cool. And - at least the people who publish vinyl these days - they stay away from this stupid "historization" (is there an english word like this?) of music by all means.
Greetings from Germany,
Dirk
