Confronted with menu peddling "freedom" foods for first time.
This weekend I was at the "Original Perry's Coffee Shop" in my area, which is oriented toward truck drivers. Suddenly, my friends and I noticed that little US flags adorned various items, such as the "Freedom Dip," "Freedom Fries," and a breakfast platter called the "Freedom Connection."

My friend commented, "I said that I would never go to a restaurant with "Freedom Fries..." Nonetheless, we were there, and it was late and we decided to stay. He ordered a "FRENCH connection" from the server, eschewing the politicized food verbage.

It's been a few months since this was in the news, but it sparked a discussion at our table about the matter. I said, "I don't think even in Nazi Germany did restaurant menus become politicized. Did they have the "Racial Purity Scrambler" or "Death to the Jew Bolsheviks Salad Dressing" (formerly known as Russian dressing)? I didn't think so.

Then I ordered what one day may be known as the "Border Patrol Chicken Quesadilla" and we moved on to other subjects...

1. I wanted to call the manager over and bitch about the "Freedom Fries"
There is this wonderful restaurant in my neighborhood with great food. They had that freedom nonsense on the markerboard.

I never did tell him, he did not come around to the tables.

2. Not once, have I been in an establishment with "freedumb" foods.
I've never seen one around here. I keep looking and waiting, but it's never happened.

My son loves French Toast and has ordered it many times since the whole "freedumb food" thing started. He's never gotten a strange look from any one.

I couldn't imagine what it would be like to walk into a place like that. Weird.

3. I'd leave.
No place that goes in for that sort of bullshit can make me want to eat there.

6. I won't be returning...
But I'll admit, it's not just because of the food PC stuff... my quesadilla sucked! I'd only gone there once before, and it was bad then too. Interestingly, thought the place is aimed at truckers, the only people there are non-white youth, at night at least.

I'm going to tell my friends to find another charming hole in the wall, with less politics and better food.

4. I have not seen them
here in my part of Kansas and that surprises me, being a "farmer/rancher" and some of the rural establishments I frequent. I have seen a lot of the other stuff but not a menu change.

5. Have not witnessed this in person
so I don't know what I'd do. Probably just order the regular FRENCH stuff.

7. Actually US has a grand history of this
Sauer kraut was victory cabbage in both world wars, for instance. Pretty sure there's other examples, but none leap to mind.

If you ever encounter this on a hung letter sign, you could change it to Fed More.

11. Nah, 1000 Island has eggs
Unless some other dressing has been renamed Russian dressing in turn (since this is still around and is different), it must have been some other Commie dressing.

12. I can't believe that...
My beloved 100 Island dressing was never called Russian. Russian is sour and can't compare with the zippy tang of 1000 Island!

9. I haven't encountered it yet
But if I do I am going to ask the staff what "freedom" fries are...make them describe them to me until they have to say french fries.

"...The Saturn Cafe in Santa Cruz is temporarily changing the name of their fries to "Fuck George Bush Fries" and 5 % of the profits going to the Impeachment Fund..."

Hey, unrelated but hilarious topic on same linked page:

"03/26/03: Fire At The White House

WASHINGTON, March 24 (Reuters) -
A tragic fire on Monday destroyed the personal library of President George W. Bush. Both of his books have been lost. Presidential spokesman Ari Fleischer said the president was devastated, as he had not finished coloring the second one."

Gotta love that Jello Biafra!
