1. Funny you should ask that
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 09:52 PM by khephra
I just wrote my list up to hand in tomorrow.

Now, I actually read more books that are listed, but I've decided to go to buying several books in TPB form (eg. Lucifer and most of the Ultimate books)

Supreme Power (By JMS of Babylon 5)

Runaways (a group of teens find out their parents are super villains)

(coming out soon) Astonishing X-Men (written by Buffy's creator, Joss Whedon)

Ultimate FF (soon to be written by Warren Ellis, so there's no way I'll wait on the trades)

The new Mark Millar Spider-Man

Daredevil (go Bendis!)

The Pulse (go Bendis!)

I'm going to try the new Firestorm, but I don't have high hopes for it.

Seaguy (Grant Morrison, nuff said)

Monolith (a golem story with an urban Bernie Wrightson "Swamp Thing" horror vibe)

Powers (police and supers, go Bendis!)

Rex Mundi (an alternate world where magic works, Martin Luther was killed before he reformed the Church, secret societies, Templars, and a Church that never fell out of power with an ongoing Inquisition. GREAT FUCKING BOOK!)

Wanted (super-villains took out all the superheroes in the 1950's and they now rule the world in a united Secret Society with a mobbish feel, all the while the rest of humanity goes on blissfully ignorant of it all, their minds controlled like in They Live. VERY violent and graphic. Soon to be a major motion picture, although I can't image how they'll do it without toning it down, which will ruin it. It's been called the Watchmen of super-villains)

Chosen (Jesus comes back as a suburban kid in the 80's)

Unfunnies (reality intrudes into a Donald Duck/Loony Toons world, and death, real death, follows)

Anything by Alan Moore except for his Tom Strong stuff.

And anything new by Jhonen Vasquez, the creator of Johnny The Homicidal Maniac and Invader Zim.

4. Even worse than that
He's recycling ideas he used in Supreme. It's such a bland read.

OH! I forgot Promethea. That's on my pull list too. Top Ten will be as well, should we ever get a season 2.

6. Well the Rumor about Top 10 is that there WILL be a season 2
But Moore wont be writing it but Peter Hogan will. Im not sure if Gene Ha will rutun but thats the story as I have heard it.
Im wondering now if there will be the next LoEG that Kevin O'Neil wants to do with former members with Moore " Retiring" from comics
Speaking of Kevin O'Neil I was just re-reading my Marshal Law Collections..WOW what a great book..Very gory and crass but whata punch those books had. MUST READ!

8. From what I understand about Moore's "retirement"
is that it's filled with a lot of "outs". He will still do comics, except they will be more in the line of LXG and From Hell/Lost Girls. I think he's getting tired of superheroics again. The problem is this: Moore is sort of the Perot of Comics. He keeps on changing his mind and going back on his "never agains". It sometimes takes him years to change his mind, but even if he just goes to novels, that's cool with me. I've got his first book; I just haven't had time to read it yet.

9. Yeah I thought " Yeah right" when I heard Moore was Retireing...
But im sure he will keeping doing those type of books like LXG and From hell...I know this will never happen but I wish Alan and DC would kiss and make up. He wrote some of the best comic books ever when he worked for DC.

7. Ah a Marvel Zombie I see:)
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 10:28 PM by SideshowScott
I used to be a hard core Marvel Zombie but I find that DC puts out better books in my MOST HUMBLE opinion. I still read Fanstatic Four and the Ultimate line but I read more DC on a regualar basis. I love Grant Morrison but after the Cassandra Nova saga on New X-men he kinda lost me..Still looking forward to Seaguy though
By the By Mike Golden is drawing the May Issue of birds of prey. ANd Paul Gulacy is the regular artist on the outstanding book " Catwoman "
Scott ( thinking I should do more comics threads..:) )

11. Get ready for a revamp of the X-Line again
Chief among the products shipping that month, and probably what spiked interest to a point where the February 25th embargo was broken, are the X-books, whose “Reload” event kicks off with Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday, New X-Men dropping the “New,” and New Mutants turning into New X-Men: Academy X, as well as storyarc starts aplenty and some creative shuffles.

From http://cagadisimo.servebeer.com/marvelmay.txt only one of the sites that posted the solicits, and pointed to by several sources, here are the X-books shipping for May.

Not great eather. But he does too many montly books..That has to hurt quality id think..People do hate him with a passoin but not as bad as Ron Zimmerman though..WOW the fanboys hate him!
Id think Austin would be a better writer if he trims down to 2 or 3 books and learns the craft more

He is spread a little thin, and I'm sure that doesn't help the quality of some of his writing. The stuff he has done, however, I think is still pretty good.

17. Sigh....
It's just been announced that John (reboot) Byrne is going to be rebooting the Doom Patrol. Ignoring all the past history of the DP, he's going to be starting from scratch as if they've never been players in the DCU.

It's not Byrne's idea, but TPTB. Still, when you need a quick reboot, who do you call?

And I was so wanting to see The Brotherhood of Dada in the DCU at some point.

18. The Animated Batman book, the animated JLA,
anything that Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alex Ross, or Darwyn Cooke has a hand in. I get frustrated with monthlies--as soon as the creative team changes, the book changes for me. Buffy and Fray were both great.

I scattershot around for new and different titles, and currently can't say enough about "Chosen" and "My Faith In Frankie." Both are Vertigo, I think. Chosen is the story of the reborn Christ, a typical 13 year old kid in the mid-Eighties, and Frankie is a great yarn about a 17-year-old girl being smothered by the affections of her own personal god, who has always provided for her and is completely miffed when her hormones drive her towards other boys instead of their chaste relationship. Brilliant book.

22. Frost is still selfish, but she's "moved to the center" over the years
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 02:06 PM by khephra
;-)

She isn't quite a gung-ho good guy, but she'd been redeemed over time. She can still be quite snarky and a troublemaker. Her and Cyclops recently had a adulterous psychic affair.

Jean came back...again....and just died...again. But in the last of Morrison's run we see (in a possible future) that she awakens once again. Heck, she is named Pheonix after all.

So Scott is now with Emma of all people and he's actually loosened up quite a bit. But since we're having a change-over in talent, I expect him to revert to being Mr.Stuck-up soon enough. :-P
