I am a Kerry volunteer now, in SW PA
I just got on this winning ticket about a month ago, but I vow to all here that I will work my glutes off to help win the Oval Office for the honorable Senator Kerry in whom I am confident will be a great leader for our country.

I was in touch today with the Pittsburgh Kerry organizing committee, who are having a meeting tomorrow, where I will enlist and serve our country to the best of my ability in the upcoming campaign.

If any DUers can make any suggestions about specifically what I can do to help, please advise me.

I also request that the DU moderators to please post the addresses of activist sites, so those of us who do not have much experience in real-world politics can catch up on what must be done -- because we need to be totally fit for action in this the most critical election of our lifetimes. (BTW -- my WWII vet Dad, 78 years old, says this is the most important election in *his* life too. He stood up and fought against fascism, and now its my turn.)

Pennsylvania, I believe, will be a landslide for Senator Kerry. I will do everything in my power to make it as painful and humiliating a loss for His Chimperial Highness Mr Bush as possible. We in Pittsburgh PA all look to Senator Kerry for his leadership in these hard times-- but we have ALREADY been long seduced into adoring his incredible wife, Teresa, and know that she will be one of the greatest and wisest First Ladies in history, and in her, we are probably the happiest Americans of all, because we embrace her as she has long embraced us.

Believe me -- what WE can do for him and our country is worth far more than the hundreds of million$ that the Bush Crime Family will spend paying the present generation of Riefenstahl PR directors to make this snippy little fratboy look like a real leader. There IS a new generational challenge -- and it is to defeat authoritarianism and fundamentalism as the determining forces in the world and our nation.

I'm rolling up my sleeves now -- but I am shopping for dancing shoes for January 2005, and I hope I get a dance with you.

Next year in Washington DC!

5. Pittsburgh
Living in exile, having moved here from FL, where I was a witness to the events of 2000.

Don't worry -- Kerry is going to win. I say that not as a criminal with the inside "goods," like Karen Hughes about FL on Election night 2000 -- but as someone listening to the drumbeats on the streets. Gore won comfortably in 2000 -- and that was when stakes were perceived as nothing as high as they are seen today. Texans may pride themselves on straight talk, but we in Pittsburgh *really* don't put up with bullshit -- which is why our Paul O'Neill ended up on the wrong side of the smirky adminstration.

No doubt His Chimperial Highness will get the same wackos to vote for him who did last time -- and for all the same wacky reasons -- but people who voted for him who didn't know any better, or who thought we should at least "give him a chance" are fed up with him and want this Prairie Monkey back in Texas.

Somerset is such a lovely area and you much enjoy it immensely.

Being so close to the tragedy in PA on Sept 11 2001 -- do you have any personal account?

7. the area is quite nice, but the people are very conservative
it's a Republican stronghold. Gore got roughly a third of the votes here. They even gerrymandered us out of John Murtha's district and into Bud Shuster's.

We need a strong voter turnout to win this thing.

4. I'm in Pittsburgh too and signed on at www.johnkerry.com
I donated a few bucks and I signed up at the website and indicated that I'd be willing to help out. I haven't actually done anything yet. I figure more toward Summer and fall I'd donate some time. I have three kids so I'm not going to be able to spend a lot of time helping out. But, hey, I figure the only way they'll have a chance to afford college is with a Dem in the White House.

I also agree that Kerry will win Pa. easily. If we can help him get Ohio then I think we are looking real good.

Post the meeting minutes or synopsis on DU if you can.

6. I'll help Ohio, and WV too
Depending on how things transpire this year -- if PA looks safe, I am willing to work for Ohio and WV -- and hell! -- I'll even work in FL, where I used to live.

ANything strange and exciting that happens in the Bush Must Go world of SW PA, I will definitely keep you posted, elbayl.

How are you helping..volunteering in a local office?

I'm anxious to help the Kerry campaign too, but I feel a little like a chicken running around with its head cut off. ;)

10. How did you get connected with the group?
I'm originally from W. PA, and it's where my parents still live. Pittsbugh's a great town. I miss the hills.

I signed up as a voluneer at the johnkerry.com website, but haven't really found a way to get involved yet. I don't think they've made it as easy as say, Clark and Dean did. Hopefully that will change -- I really hope that they're getting some good web people and that they'll come out with a better site, and that things just seem slow now because the campaign is transitioning to the GE.
