Local station lineup here stinks.
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 01:14 AM by Archae
Here in Sheboygan, the biggest AM station is WHBL, not Clear Channel, but still they have local conservatives, Sean Insanity, 1 hour of Mitch Album for "balance," and then Michael Savage.
Oh, and that "Coast To Coast" radio show that used to be Art Bell.

Biggest FM station plays Heavy Metal and syntho-pop crap.

I like WKLH out of Milwaukee, classic hits, (Stones, Beatles, Floyd, etc,) no (in their words,) "heavy metal yin-yang, or goofy oldies."

What's it like near you?

1. Let's see...
Lots of right-wing talk radio here in Atlanta. There's 640 AM (former home of Sean Hannity before he was syndicated), once (aptly) described as "All Fascist, All The Time". AM 750, home station of Neal Boortz. No liberals on talk radio, at all.

FM is a little brighter, though. No fewer than three NPR FM stations within broadcast range for me (one of them plays light classical when not airing NPR programmes, and another plays jazz). Then there are the college radio stations: WRAS FM (Georgia State University radio) is the best, very eclectic mix of, well, all kinds of music. Best place to hear good TRULY "alternative" rock, hip-hop, and electronica, along with alternative country, jazz, classical, metal, gothic/industrial/EBM, et cetera und so weiter. WREK FM (Georgia Tech) plays a lot of "experimental" electronic music, and a good selection of IDM ("intelligent dance music"), along with some stuff that defies categorisation. WRFG, local community radio outlet, carries a lot of Pacifica programmes, and is probably the only station in the area running any left-of-centre current events programming. WCLK (more college radio, Clark Atlanta University) is exclusively jazz, R&B and reggae. I like it when they play straight-ahead jazz, the smooth jazz I can do without. (All of these, so far, are to the left of 92.1 on the dial...and pretty much takes care of the decent radio in the area.)

The corporate rock station, owned by Clear Channel, is belligerently right-wing, and it's extremely obvious that they're targeting the "brain-damaged redneck scumfuck" demographic. Oh, and the "new rock" station plays a lot of bad new music, but they recently started playing more 90's alternative stuff that I actually LIKE (REM, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, etc etc) so they aren't as bad as they were.

Sounds like the radio market here is a hell of a lot better than in Wisconsin...(not that it's all that great...)
