Republican, Democrat or Independent? You decide...
Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 05:31 PM by rockymountaindem
My friend is a little confused about his political allignment, but he certainly knows what his beliefs are. Here are some of his recent statements... tell me what you think. These statements were made in a debate forum some of my friends have organized...

"While it is true that Kerry voted against many military propositions, one must assess the cost of continually upgrading our military while our opponents continually degrade. Only our ally nations remain close to a decade away from our military technology even then they do not have the capability to field as many battle systems as the US does.I can assure this forum that the small list of resolutions presented represents only a small fraction of the military bills that congress has fielded. I would like to call for more research on the topic before we assign Kerry to the pacifist camp. Military spending has run rampant in the past few years and is approaching cold war levels. Mr. X (a former teacher of ours who is in the forum, a Vietnam vet and former Democrat) once said something to the effect, "Wouldn't it be great if all the money and scientific pursuit that goes into killing each other was devoted to something more productive," he cited the gyroscopic stabilizer for the M-1's primary cannon. The precision manufacturing and design could have been put to so much better use than as an instrument of destruction. I know I am on a soap box spouting utopian themes but hey, "wouldn't it be lovely?" President Bush has done many good things in office considering he was elected with the expectations of a peacetime president. He has done wonders for securing the world's oil supply. The crude oil exports from Iraq have gone up several orders of magnitude thereby increasing worldwide economies. However, Afghani poppy production has also gone up several orders of magnitude so our progress has come at a price. The United States acted alone when the entire world should have made the move together. Our communion was divided and global resolve weakened. The next presidential term has two initial problems that must be resolved immediately: the entire world must become fully united to fight against criminal groups and governments around the world rather than following in the wake of the United States' newly found resolve, and offence. Inevitably, the next presidential term will involve one or more offensives into hostile areas. Would it not be best to elect an individual with military experience to lead the effort? In addition, the next president must be a diplomat beyond the simple motion of inviting world leaders to a ranch in Texas. The president must travel aboard and meet with world leaders more than they meet here for we must project the image that we cannot proceed in our goal to eliminate criminal elements from the world without our help. We need to stop acting like a turtle retracted in its shell biting anything that comes close and take an active role in our defense by making more allies around the world."

"In conclusion, we need a president who excel in the world to come rather than analyzing past performance. I do not know whether that is Kerry or Bush and I hope that this forum will help me finalize my conclusions. Remember, attacking the other person's stance does not bolster your own. One must present arguments for their side to make a valid point rather than simply wasting time in an endless cycle of finger pointing."

What do you think of these remarks?

Edited for punctuation.
