Any DU skydivers out there?
Who's been crazy enough to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

Jump #'s? Disciplines?

1. 72 Jumps here. My discipline is not making a splat sound.
Actually, I got out of the habit a few years ago, and I'll need to go back to student status before I regain my A License.

8. Seven times
One tandem, several jumpmaster assisted jumps, and one solo.

My chute failed on my first, and last, solo jump. It wasn't a big deal, I pulled my backup which opened just as it was supposed to and executed a picture perfect landing, but it scared the hell out of me anyway. Never jumped again after that.

9. I had about that many too.
Skydiving is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

2. I had one for a midlife crisis
That was all, one solo freefall. It was a quick but very fun crisis :-)

I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

3. I made a few jumps back in the 70's
But quit after my instructor fell to his death during a jump.

I have over 63 jumps, and no 'discipline', per se. I LOVE the rush. :D

5. Just once.
Accelerated freefall. The type where you have two instructors with you, hanging onto your sides to make sure you don't spin out of control, do your procedures and get the ripcord pulled.

It was a LOT of fun. But I did it because I was going to start learning how to fly aerobatics. Since I was required to wear a parachute for that I figured I better get myself over the hump of getting out of a plane and using a chute.

(It was also a good excuse to do something I'd always wanted to do anyway.)

If I didn't have so many other interests I'd go back and do more jumps, It really was pretty fun.

...called himself 'Splat' that said he wanted to try skydiving. Haven't seen him/her around DU lately...

10. 10 times here
But it's been awhile, and I'm not sure if I want to get back into it. It's a lot of fun, but also very expensive.

I had several dreams about "going in" during the period I was skydiving. Anyone else have those?

12. What's the difference between
A bad golfer and a unlucky skydiver?

One goes WACK, "Dang!".
The other goes "Dang!", WACK.

14. 3 static line jumps and 18 free falls.
On my 17th free fall I had a streamer but the reserve performed perfectly. On the 18th jump I had a "Mae West" (one of the risers looped over the canopy creating 2 smaller canopies) and landed hard enough to break an ankle. Not long after that I met the woman who has since become my wife. She begged me to find another hobby, and after the experience of the two previous jumps I decided that wasn't an altogether bad idea. I still occasionally miss it though. The feeling is literally indescribable to anyone who hasn't tried it.

15. All long time ago. made 6 jumps.
And decided it was safer to stay in the plane. So I learned to fly instead.
