My Review of "Star Trek (2009)" (NO SPOILERS)

Excellent! Well done, and very well made. The movie keeps faith with the original Star Trek mythology while introducing brand new actors to play well known characters. In addition, the movie cleverly allows itself the ability to create new Star Trek mythologies as well.

Hard core Trekkies may not like it. They probably won't like anything that does not have Shatner as Kirk, but Star Trek needed to move forward and be told again for a new generation. The key to the film is the performance of Zachary Quinto as Spock. He more than delivers the goods, and he has to. Without a credible Spock, this film would have been a failure.

With all that said, the next film will determine if the new Star Trek will have life as a new franchise. The second movie will move beyond origination, and must delve into new mythologies that can capture the imagination and interest of Trekkie and non-Trekkie alike.
