Poll question: Desert Island Question: You'd rather have the "top" 500 movies or the "top" 500 music cds?
Edited on Fri May-08-09 07:35 PM by Mike 03
I stole this question from the XM Virus station program "Ron and Fez", and I thought it was quite a good question.

You are stranded on an island, and you can either have one of these:

1. that's a tough choice but have to go with movies
I think i would like the top 500 movies more than the top 500 CDs. The CDs are more likely to contain rap, pop, and hard core death metal, all of which I could do without.

2. Do I have my own Gilligan to pedal the bike to power the devices to play them?
If not, I'll take the DVDs. Probably wind up with around 700 actual discs (what with the extra bonus discs, etc) that one could place mirror side up in various places to try to attract a plane.

3. That is tough! But with the movies, you can at last see people.
And that may help keep sanity and some great movies also have great music.

4. I would pick the movies because there is a much greater chance that I would agree with the choices
I haven't been impressed with popular music since the 70s and I am sure that ones that I wanted to listen to wouldn't be on the list. Plus, videos would be better entertainment when I wasn't busy foraging for food!

5. Movies--no contest
"Best" CDs is much more subjective--I know I'd end up with a bunch of music I'd detest. Movies, however, are more likely to be more consistent in what's considered "good", and I'd find more in the stash to enjoy.

Besides, a lot of good movies have great soundtracks, so I'd get tuneage that way! :)

7. The movies easily.
Then I'd find some way to sneak my ipod too.

8. Neither if I have to choose by what's a top-seller.
If I get to make such a huge list from my tastes alone, it would have to be the music. I can always write and make up my own stories to the music. With movies, the imagination is already done for you ;)

10. Yes. If I get to choose the 500, it will be music for sure.

12. A win-win....sort of.
The movies would contain music, so you'd still get some tunes.

13. I'm going with music, and hoping that at least 10 of those CDs are ones I like
Edited on Fri May-08-09 09:32 PM by Duer 157099
The way I figure it - I can listen to music over and over and over and over and over and over ... ad infinitum.

But I can only watch a movie at most a couple/few times.

edit to add an even more important point: music is soothing to the soul, it definitely affects mood positively (if it's good music, of course) Whereas movies just don't do that.

17. Agree
There aren't many movies I'd watch over and over again.

14. Movies-- only because the top 500 selling music CDs would probably blow goats
Most of the stuff I'd want to listen to on CD would not be in the top 500 sellers. I can do without Brittney Spears, Celine Dion, the boy band du jour, and Hannah Montana.

If I could pick ANY 500 CDs, OTOH....

15. Movies. Sometimes, there is music in movies.
So, you'd still be getting some decent music in most cases.

16. Music, because I like music much more than movies, and..
with my open-minded taste, I would find plenty of albums to like. Not close to all, but the same would be true with the movies.
