Anyone have a "car repair" warranty?
Are they scams or are some of them legit?

Both of our cars are older and getting up there in mileage and I am looking to not get killed by a major repair.

1. we have one
My husband purchased it when we purchased our used minivan. It has come in very handy. Saved us a lot of money on major repairs. I will look for the information (we keep all receipts and things like that) and I will PM you.

2. If you buy a reputable one, it's like buying insurance (at least to me).
I don't see it as a waste if I never need it. The peace of mind is worth it to me. Many years ago, it saved me a few times on a Pontiac I had. When I bought my Mazda, I bought an extended warranty that was pretty cheap (based on the fact that it still has most of the factory warranty left). Care free motoring until 100k.

3. Make sure you get a good one
My wife had one, and excepting one incident due to a misunderstanding about how long it was valid for, it was good as gold and paid for everything, making it well worth the price. The only downside was all her "regular maintenance", which is still your own responsibility, had to be done at the right dealerships, which can cost a bit more.

A college roommate had one that paid for the first small repair, but when he later had a repair that was over the price that he had paid them, they canceled it, and sent him a prorated refund. I read up on them at that point, and I guess thats SOP for the sketchy ones. If the costs will exceed what they have been paid, they will find a way to cancel you. In which case you might as well have just put the cash in a savings acct.

So in the end, make sure you research it and get a good one. Not the ones that keep calling and leaving "your warranty is about to expire" messages on everyones phones.

4. KGO/ABC did a story on those US Fidelis chumps.
They refused to pay her car repair bill, saying her coverage wasn't in effect yet, when in fact she said it was.

Apparently the clowns doing the sell, told her the coverage began right away. Whatever it takes to get a sell, I suppose. Lie, cheat, steal, it's all good.

I think these are those assholes with the mass telemarketing machines that call every home and cell phone in America.
