2. Wait...you place a Natinal chasing DiMaggio?
He's good and all, and I've given him a lot of credit...but really.

4. Hey, we'll trade you some of our horrible pitchers for
Zimmerman.

You'll still come out ahead!

7. It's certainly noteworthy, but...
You realize the closest anyone's come to DiMag was Pete Rose with 44 in 1978? Pete fucking Rose! Then Paul Molitor with 39 in 1987. Jimmy Rollins came closest since then with 38 across 2005 and 2006.

The longer any streak goes, the harder it is to maintain, especially when you've got like 200 pitchers trying to stop it. A lotta baseball people say DiMaggio's 56 is a record that'll never be broken. 'Course, they used to say that about Ruth's 714 and Maris' 61, too.

I'm not trying to take away anything from Zimmerman. Hell, any hitting streak more than 10 games is something to be proud of. But DiMag's is just unreachable.

BTW — the day after DiMaggio's streak ended, he started another one; I think it went 17 games, so he hit in 73 of 74 games. Un-fucking-believable.
