If I were a carpenter.. and you were a Lady.
*swoon*

Johnny Cash And June Carter Cash - If I Were A Carpenter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBllgGaB4Nw

If I were a carpenter
and you were a lady,
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?

If you were a carpenter
and I were a lady,
I'd marry you anyway?
I'd have your baby.

Save your love through loneliness,
Save your love for sorrow,
Give you my onliness,
Give me your tomorrow.

If I were a miller
at a mill wheel grinding,
would you miss your colord blouse,
and your soft shoe shining?

If you were a miller
at a mill wheel grinding,
I'd miss my colord blouse,
and my soft shoe shining?

Save my love through loneliness,
Save my love for sorrow,
I'm given you my onliness,
Give me your tomorrow.

If a tinker was my trade
would you still find you?
I'd be carrin' what you made,
followin' behind you.

If I worked my hands in wood,
Would you still love me?
I'd answer you, "Yes I would,
Would you not be above me."

Save my love through loneliness,
Save my love for sorrow,
I'm given you my onliness,
Give me your tomorrow.

I'm drunk. That was hard to type :P

1. ...and even harder to listen to.

I'm a fan of Johnny Cash, but even I have to admit that turning Tim Hardin's delicate ballad into a "question-and-answer" country duet was a bad idea. Bobby Darin's cover is still the best of the well-known versions, but the composer's own recording remains especially touching.
