1. Ain't got no distractions-can't hear no buzzers or bells.
Don't see no lights flashin'--plays by sense of smell....

Have you heard the "lost verse" variation of Who Are You?

The most magnificent thing Pete ever wrote, though as a bass guitarist I am also a big fan of "The Real Me," where the Ox stands toe to toe with Roger in getting the song across. Does he ever!

17. I Can't Explain, 'cause it was covered by Hawaii musical goddess Yvonne Elliman
her version was popular on our then-classic rock station (now a '70s-'80s format called "The Ride") a couple of years ago.

Unaccountably, it has yet to appear on the grand stage of YouTube. :(

25. "Eminence" Front -- - I used to think it was imminent front :-)
The sun shines and people forget
The spray flies as the speedboat glides, and people forget
Forget they're hiding

The girls smile and people forget
The snow packs as the skier tracks, and people forget
Forget they're hiding

Behind an eminence front
Eminence front, it's a put on
It's an eminence front
It's an eminence front, it's a put on
An eminence front
Eminence front, it's a put on, eminence front
It's an eminence front
It's an eminence front, it's a put on, it's a put on, it's a put on, it's a put on

Come and join the party, dressed to kill
Won't you come and join the party, dressed to kill
Dressed to kill

Drinks flow, people forget
That big wheel spins, the hair thins, people forget, forget they're hiding
The news slows, people forget
The shares crash, hopes are dashed, people forget
Forget they're hiding

Behind an eminence front
An eminence front, it's a put on
It's just an eminence front
An eminence front, it's a put on
An eminence front
An eminence front, it's a put on
Eminence front
It's an eminence front, it's a put on, it's a put on, it's a put on, it's a put on

Come and join the party, dressed to
Come and join the party, dressed to
Come on join the party, dressed to
Come on join the party, dressed to kill
Dress yourself to kill

27. It was always Baba OReilly, until about 5 years ago.
I was visitng some Vietnam vets at Walter Reed hospital. I was talking to one of them about his tour - and somehow we wandered off on the topic of the music that was popular during the war.

He told me that "Behind Blue Eyes" was, to him, a letter to the government - from an American soldier who was drafted and sent to Vietnam.

When he first told me that story, I was completely confused. So, when I got home, I pulled my Who CDs and listened to it. Really listened to it. And wow - just wow. I see what he means.

Try listening to it from that perspective. It's very interesting. I never hear "Behind Blue Eyes" without thinking of him now.

Supposed to come after Pinball Wizard. Tommy spends so much money playing pinball he needs to go around asking for donations. It's a pretty powerful song, I'm disappointed they left it off the album.

Even though I don't really consider myself a big Who fan at all (I prefer Zeppelin, Sabbath, The Stones, etc.) that song stands as one of the greatest musical and lyrical statements in rock and roll history. So fucking amazing, every time I hear it.

50. The live version of "Baba O'Riley" on "The Kids Are Alright"...
...Shepperton Studios, one of the final Keith Moon performances. When Townshend comes in on guitar right after "I don't need to be forgiven," it's the biggest fat-assed chord I've heard him play other than the one that follows "I used to follow you back in '63" on "Bell Boy" from "Quadrophenia."

52. Pretty much all of quadrophenia
but my personal favorite is Pure & easy- although I like Pete's solo version better- his singins is so sweet and pure.

There once was a note pure and easy
Playing so free like a breath rippling by
The note is eternal
I hear it, it sees me
Forever we blend as forever we die

I listened and I heard music in a word
And words when you played your guitar
The noise that I was hearing was a million people cheering
And a child flew past me riding in a star

As people assemble
civilization is trying to find a new way to die
But killing is really merely scene changer
All men are bored with other men's lives

I listened and I heard music in a word
And words when you played your guitar
The noise that I was hearing was a million people cheering
And a child flew past me riding in a star

Gas on the hillside
Oil in the tea cup
Watch all the chords of life lose their joy
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness
The note that began all can also destroy

We all know success when we all find our own dream
And our love is enough to knock down any wall
And the future's been seen as men try to realize
The simple secret of the note in us all
In us all

I listened and I heard music in a word
And words when you played your guitar
The noise that I was hearing was a million people cheering
And a child flew past me riding in a star

Today is the day, the sound covers mountains
Flowing and blowing each man in its wake
Destroying itself in the end with vibration
There's nothing on earth it's challenge can take
Excepting one note

Excepting one note pure and easy
Playing so free like breath rippling by

Excepting one note
Excepting one note
Excepting one note, pure and easy
Excepting one note, pure and easy
(repeated)

There once was a note listen
There once was a note listen
There once was a note listen
