Please help me before I have no skin left on my legs.. .
I was bitten by Uber Mosquitos or something on Friday. Days later the itching is still driving me NUTS. Any homeopathic (or even straight) remedies are welcome.

3. Benadryl.....maybe rubbing alcohol or witch hazel to cool the itching
I have even heard that Solarcaine and/or Lanacaine can help with the itching. Aloe Vera?

I would think anything with peppermint oil or tea tree oil could help....

4. I am sorry you are suffering
I have had some success with a paste of baking soda and water. Also, you might add baking soda to bathwater and try this. Have to say I have never been bitten quite as badly as you describe, but this certainly worked on a few bites.

5. Soap.
Dampen a bar of soap, and rub it on the mosquito bites. Don't make it wet and drippy. It should be just slightly wet so that you are rubbing on a sort of paste.

This may not be thick enough to show. Doesn't matter. The itching stops almost instantly. I learned this in childhood, and a friend tried it recently. She was very surprised by the cessation of itching.

Regular soap, nothing fancy. I've never used translucent soap, always the opaque white soap. Recently used: Lux, Cashmere Bouquet, Jergens.

6. I used to live in South Jersey. Jigger bites where awful there
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 12:56 AM by roughsatori
Perhaps that is what you have. I just googled "jigger bite remedies" and found PDF files, so I couldn't copy and paste for you. Jiggers lay eggs under the skin and the bites seem to itch worse at night. I remember we used to dab nail polish on them to kill them. I am pretty sure now that probably was just an old-wives-tale remedy--but they are finding out more and more that those old wives new a lot more than they were given credit for. Good Luck.

And if you have some over the counter Benydril tablets, that helps me when I itch.

9. I know, I thought it might freak a person out
If I told them they might have eggs under their skin, but that was not the reason I did it

8. we use isopropyl alcohol (wintergreen)
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 01:16 AM by dweller
and aloe vera lotion like used for sunburn, must have lidocaine as ingredient! It numbs the skin's itch.
iso dries them out, aloe heals them quickly.
I know it sounds horribly painful, but it's not ...for long.

are you sure they aren't chiggers? Sounds like you are not sure it's mosquitos. Chiggers will die with application of Octagon Soap several times over the course of a day or so.

edit: where are the bites? chiggers will concentrate on certain regions of the body (waistband, pits, groin, behind the knees and lower legs) leaving a hard bump of a bite that can ooze later.
mosquitos are not so picky, arms, neck, face, etc.
good luck!

10. Chiggers and Jiggers are the same evil mite I think
Chigger is a term given to the larva of several microscopic blood-sucking mites. Unlike mosquito bites that tend to fade after a period of no more than twenty-four hours, the chigger bite can last up to three weeks. What makes this little mite so potent?

Here is the link to a remedy:

11. You know the reason there are 25million people within 100
miles of NYC?

NO CHIGGERS.

They are the worst little beasties on the planet. They are so bad, because they are growing in your skin, eating cells.

16. meat tenderizer
It might be too late for this but meat tenderizer has an enzime that breaks down the stuff that makes you itch. Also bathe in oatmeal or Aveeno.
I'm sorry you are in such discomfort!

17. If you're sure they are mosquito bites...
Try ledum palustre 30X or lower. This is especially indicated if the itching is worse at night and if there's some burning and swelling. Take one dose when the itch is bad. Repeat once about an hour later if there's no relief. Don't continue if there's not the slightest relief thereafter.

18. Um, you SCRATCH an ITCH...not the other way around...
This drives me insane!! :wtf: You SCRATCH your ITCHES, you don't itch your scratches! So, don't SCRATCH because it will make the CHIGGERS worse...I've never heard them called Jiggers...I think that's some weird thing up north they thought they heard when a southerner said Chigger, which is what we have and they are HORRIBLE little BUGGERS.

20. my fave remedy for itching bites
is clear stick deodorant, preferably men's. A Vietnam vet told my husband this years ago and although I was skeptical I've used it ever since. I think it's the ammonia that does the trick but whatever it is it works like a charm getting rid of that maddening itch.
