Further update on my dad
They didn't replace his stents or clear the scar tissue. They can't do a bypass either on the fully blocked section because his arteries have deteriorated too much. (There's some backstory there about why he wasn't checked up on sooner, but I can't share that. Suffice to say that things should have and could have been dealt with earlier and maybe he could have had the surgery if they'd followed up in a timely manner.)

So instead of surgery they are going to encourage the growth of a new artery. Cross your finger that this works. :)

Thanks again for the vibes and keep them coming! :loveya:

2. Getting well thoughts for your dad
As Rosanne Rosannadanna used to say, "if it isn't one thing it's another...", but at least they have another option for treatment.

7. Apparently he's already started growing two, with one being a viable replacement candidate. To keep
it going he's going to keep up with his walking regimen and go to the cardiac lab almost every day for some sort of cuff system (like a blood pressure cuff I think) that he will wear on his limbs and stomach.

Now why that promotes the growth I am not sure. Stressing the cardiovascular system, maybe? *scratching head* I am going to have to research it a bit.

Honestly when he first told me about this I thought they were going to grow in a test-tube or something. LOL

13. I found a couple of references to growing new arteries
http://www.news-medical.net/news/2004/03/26/144.aspx

Has your father had these injections? It sure sounds like a promising patient-friendly alternative to surgery.

15. Thanks! I sent them along to him. I have no idea if injections are standard procedure now or not.
