1. I've heard good things about them...my roommate bought one a couple
months ago and seems very happy with it.

I'm loyal to Nissan anyway...my first car was an 88 Stanza ( best car I've owned ) They seem to make a very reliable product and stand behind it.

2. It's a good car no matter what engine or trim level you get.

It would be one of my top choices for a 4-door car at that price point.

Someone here bought one recently that I recall.

On edit: they make a very cool coupe too, so I'd add that it would be on my short 2-door list as well.

7. i have a 2002 in Seascape

with sunroof and some package that included cargo nets and leather steering wheel.

i love it. 109K so far. i DID just have an unfortunate expense... cracked head gasket had to be replaced. but i got it done before it fvcked up the engine, and now it seems to run even better. (if you google "head gasket" and "2002 Altima", you will see that this is an occasional problem with this model year) outside of this incident, which of course occurred when i was out of warranty, it's really been a trouble-free ride.

i'd get a new one but i still love this one so much, i'm going to run it as long as it is relatively cost-effective.

i am getting an average of 26MPG.

10. You should really check your facts
In 1993, Nissan discontinued its much-criticized Stanza, replacing it with the US-made Altima, while remaining a compact car. The very first Altima rolled off the assembly line on June 15, 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altimas had been built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi, plant began producing additional Altimas to meet high demand.

Otherwise, it can get very embarrasing...
