older workers
Please forgive me if this comes across as a repeat, but I wonder if there are many, like myself , over 69 yrs that still work. I posted this question as a reply to another question.

1. I'm only in my late 20s, but I sincerely hope I'll still be able to stay busy at that age.
I just hope its because I enjoy it, not out of necessity. :)

2. There's a program here in SoCal called "Experience Works" for older workers.
Basically, it's for older workers who are receiving government assistance because they are finding it difficult to be hired despite good qualifications. Frequently, they wind up being hired by the same government agencies that "apprenticed" them. I know about 4 who acquired regular jobs with my employer that way. Don't know their exact ages, but none are under 60.

3. I live in Florida.
I know any number of 70+ year olds that still work, or have gone back to work. Others that do a lot of unpaid work - volunteering at this and that.

This all struck me as strange, at first, as I retired when I was 50, and am still in my 50s. But as I get to know these folks, and since I am beginning to think I retired waaaaay too young, I'm beginning to get it.

Some work because it keeps them busy. Some work because of economic necessity, or because they're afraid they'll outlive their money. Others go back to work after the death of a spouse, not because of money, but because they are lonely. Still others do it as a form of activism or charitable giving.

Anyway, down here there are a lot of them.
