Poll question: Are you more or less likely to watch a movie or TV show if a character is a hometown kid?
for me, it depends on the actor. I have more of a loyalty to Star Trek: TNG since Jonathan Frankes is a hometown boy. I also have a sense of pride knowing that Jin (Daniel Dae Kwan) is a local boy too. As for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, I could give a rats ass what movies he's in.

1. Where he or she comes from has less bearing than just if I am lucky enough to know them. The

ultimate quality of the work is a private issue. I would never want to hurt someone's feelings.

For example, living in Los Angeles or knowing a particular actor or actress didn't make me more likely to appreciate the work of a certain actress, or going to school with a particular artist didn't make me more likely to praise her work as a result of that, if that is what you are getting at?

Not sure.

ON EDIT:

Just to clarify, I would see anything that a friend or someone known to me personally did, as in terms of a work of art, or movie, or anything. But I would never lie about the quality of the work to a third person.

2. heh, I guess LA and NYC are the exceptions
since so many hail from one or the other. I guess I was thinking if you came from a small to mid size town and one of your own made it big. If you knew that person was in a movie or TV show would you go out of your way to watch their show?

3. I think I'd try to watch the show, yeah
Someone I went to high school with was on a season of Survivor. Another person I went to high school with relocated to New York to become an actor; he ended up being in a Chappelle Show skit and had a bit part in an episode of Law and Order SVU. So yeah, it was neat to see someone I remembered seeing around the halls on TV.

4. that's cool
there's a kid I distinctly remember falling asleep in the middle of the grade school christmas recital who's now racing in the Indy 500, was rookie of the year and has a couple indy car wins. it never gets old seeing his name flash by on the screen and his car screaming around the track.

5. Those of us from Small Town USA have to stick together
It doesn't take much to make my high school's Hall of Fame,

Indy Car driver is pretty cool, though. No one that cool is from my town.

6. More likely, but only for an episode or two.
I remember when it's someone from Houston. I think there were two Houston high school graduates on Gray's anatomy. That didn't make it seem like any less of a boring show, so I quit watching. But knowing the chick playing Gabriela on Xena Warrior Princess did help me remember to catch the show whenever I could.
