Big thunder boomer coming our way here!
:bounce: :woohoo: :bounce:

Am already on battery here on my Macbook. Power just went out a minute ago, and is already back on.
Tons of lightning and thunder!

:woohoo:

(we don't get many storms like this in Central CA)

Do you already have a job in Idaho? Am hedging my bets in OK because I have connections there, and most states a reciprocal with CA for credentialing.

Sorry you lost your job, too. I know my not getting hired here has to do with being at top of my pay scale nad budget.

Wow! Sounds almost like a small tornado out there right now! :wow:

3. Son just called to see if I were watching the storm
He digs it as much as I do ;)

He said his BBQ went sailing across his porch, and it's no small BBQ!

My umbrella blew over, but it can wait. I don't think it;s going anywhere else at the moment :P

Gusty and lightning and booming out there right now! :woohoo:

5. We're having one in the DC area right now, too...
Fitz, the cat we took in this last winter, is so happy that he has a safe, dry place to ride out storms now. :)

Sounds like Fitz is one happy snuggy cat ;)

Seneca (border collie mix) was into the storm, too.
She grew up in Oklahoma like I did!
Adopted her three years ago, brought her out from OK to CA.
Now we're going back to OK to live in a few short weeks.

I think she'll be a very happy (14 yo) pup about it all.

:hi: :loveya:

10. We're getting flashes of lightning ...........
No thunder, no rain, although they're predicted.

Could you believe the humidity today? It felt like July, dammit.

Hey, how did your performance at the museum go ?

13. I don't like the sticky stuff...
Not my cup of tea at all. :(

The concert was fine, if a bit long due to many speeches. It was an unusual gig for me...We were accompanying a bunch of amateur choirs who get together every 3 years to sing German songs. This was their 50th concert...They've been doing this for 150 years. They seemed to have a good time. :)

I really enjoyed hanging out at the museum. They've got some neat exhibits there!

How are you doing?

15. It's gonna be a long, icky summer -
I'm gonna have to avoid it as much as possible. The older I get, the less I can tolerate the mugginess.

Sometimes I seriously consider moving to Winnipeg.

Doing good. Every day is a victory when you start at zero, so I'm fine, thanks.......... :)

20. Comcast crapped out
during the lightning last night. Everything went down around 1:45 a.m., but it came up again before 3 a.m.

I was watching a DVD. The life of a vampire is a simple one.

Today, they're calling for thunderstorms later and Alexandria, right on the river, has another flash flood warning going.

And it's still only MAY!

21. I drove through Sligo and Rock Creek Parks this morning...
...on my way to Strathmore for a rehearsal. There were a number of places where it was evident that the creeks had overflowed their banks.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had more flooding today. It just started raining here.

22. UPDATE! Seems there was something just short of a tornado here
Trees uprooted, sheared off, twisted and taken down right at ground level.

Some local damage, nothing super big.

And, we are advised it could happen all over again tonight!

At my place, just my patio umbrella was broken.
There were a few minutes last night at the height of it all when it sounded like a low and deep train rumble.
It was quite intense!

From Weatherunderground for your town:

Special Weather Statement

Statement as of 4:05 PM PDT on May 29, 2009

... Strong thunderstorms developing again this afternoon...

A warm... moist and unstable airmass remains over the central
California interior this afternoon. Conditions remain favorable
for isolated strong thunderstorms through early this evening...
especially over the higher terrain.

The primary focus for convection is in the Kern County mountains
an desert today. A prevailing offshore flow aloft may bring one
or two thunderstorms into the Kern County portion of the San
Joaquin Valley. Although clouds are currently inhibiting convection
over much of the southern Sierra Nevada... there is still potential
for thunderstorm development over this region through early this
evening.

The main threat from thunderstorms will be hail and gusty winds.
With dry soil conditions in the San Joaquin Valley... areas of
blowing dust will be possible with outflow winds from the
thunderstorms. Locally heavy rain and lightning may accompany the
thunderstorms... with local street flooding possible.

All is well for my move to OKC.
And I don't have to pay rent for June.
What a son!

Oh! And he repaired my washer agitator while he was here!

I am sooooooooooooo lucky.
Have already shed too many tears over this move.

Now...still have to find a driver for my rental truck....
I'm getting kind of excited over the move ***hopeful****

25. Was it a microburst?
We had one of those come through our neighborhood about 15 years ago. It broke a couple of major limbs off a silver maple. Fortunately nothing landed on our house, though a number of neighbors were not so lucky.

Edited on Fri May-29-09 11:03 PM by Whoa_Nelly
I was thinking that, too, as I watched/listened to the storm.
But, it was that extended deep woooooooooo of about 8-10 minutes that went from one end of town to the other that makes me think it was a tornado that never quite made ground.
Shades of Oklahoma days for me at that moment.

Tonight...muggy, sticky, and looks like the possible storm is more north of here.

Hey, GoG! :loveya: :hi: :pals:
