Rat Face came home last night seriously injured.
One of her rear paws was cut and bloody and she could hardly put any weight on it. I decided, given the late hour and the fact that I'd been drinking, that it wasn't serious enough to go to the vet right away. This morning when I fought to get her into the carrier I felt that she was wet on her belly. I figured she'd been cut there, too, but didn't say so to Mrs. V.

The doc figures that Rat Face somehow got into some barbed wire. She said the cuts on her chest and abdomen are pretty much in a straight line, and of course they wouldn't be that way if she'd been attacked by an animal. Her paw is broken and is in a splint; I have to take her Tuesday to have the bandage changed.

We'll leave to get her and bring her home in a little while. The emergency vet is more than an hour away. There's one nearby but I wouldn't take any animal there unless it was life-threatening. They're not a good clinic.

Please send vibes for Rat Face, and good thoughts to my wallet. We just got paid so I have the money to pay the vet - but it's money I needed to pay the bills this weekend. I don't know how to find $1,500 . . . :scared:

9. Turns out it was only $650. "Only," she says.
:eyes: But it's going to be a lot more now - we're going to hospitalize her for a few days. She's too much to handle.

:hi:

12. well the difference makes the 650 seem OK
 - I keep telling the husband when he does a job (masonry contractor) to charge $25 or 50 more, then give a "refund". The psychological kick from a small refund vs. the bad feelings of having to charge $5 more is profound.

Good luck with her - hopefully the hospital won't have too much trouble and you will just have a few days of boarding to pay for.

8. Hope the pretty kitty gets better fast!
And I feel you re the vet bill. My cat swallowed some thread, cut up his intestines- $2000 bill- we were paying that off for a while!

Does that clinic accept Care Credit? It's a credit card which a lot of vets and some other health care providers accept- they can work out a 0% payment plan over 18 months or so, depending on the size of the bill.

11. Never heard of Care Credit - but you can bet that

I will inquire! The emergency hospital is paid. But there are the fees for hospitalization that I'm about to incur at my regular vet. We can't handle her. She's too wild. She already escaped once, and she got her cone off.

Edit - thanks for the info

13. Your poor little ratface. Thank gosh you love him enough to take good care of him.
You'll make do with all the bills. It will work out somehow.
